Let's not beat around the bush - this anime is bad. It tries desperately to fill a very particular niche and it fails miserably. Instead of writing a 40,000 word essay on how awful this anime is, I'll just briefly list a number of reasons why you should not watch this anime. Let's not waste anymore time and get started:
The characters.
Arguably the weakest part of this anime. They are super one-dimensional. Only one word circulates our bland protagonist's mind - revenge. He is single-minded and that's his entire gimmick. Or so we were led to believe, until he meets a purple-haired witch and begins to
...
slowly change, which is an amazing plot development. Or so we were led to believe, until he reinforces his revenge plotline. Or so we were led to believe, because he develops feelings for said witch. Or so we... you get the gist. The character is a jumbled mess.
The purpled witch is annoying, loud, obnoxious, dumb and naive. Her only role in this anime is to be the protagonist's chick and even then she's pretty bad at it.
The remainder of the cast (if we can even call it a cast) is pretty much forgettable. Main villain, another main villain, the villain of the arc, the villain of the second arc, and so on.
Humanity. Yes, humanity as a character. Humanity is terrible. Horrible. Evil. Perverted. Sadistic. Every single bad quality one can attribute to an individual is present in this iteration of humanity and, honestly, I agree - they should be destroyed. The sooner they're gone, the sooner this trainwreck of an anime can end. Please let it end.
The witches. Don't want to mention too much but they're no better. Bland characters, little to no development and insignificant in the grand scheme. Basically a device to move the plot forward.
Visuals.
They're ok, I guess.
Soundtrack.
Is there a soundtrack in this anime? I couldn't tell. Between all the cringe I experience, I forgot to notice there is even sound in this anime. That's how forgettable it is.
Plot.
It tries to have a plot. God, it tries so hard. All the tries in the world. It tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter. Try hard, try harder, try hardest.
Overall, don't waste your time with this anime like I have. Go outside, meet friends, visit your parents, talk to your relatives, do sports, play games. Do literally anything else other than watch this abomination.

Story: 4
Aliens.jpeg BUT they're from another dimension. And they are magical! And telepathical! And they don't use CADs! And they don't die when they are killed! And one of them has the hots for Mansuya (can't blame it tbh). And they want to destroy the world. But they made one grave miscalculation - they forgot about the existence of God himself in human form. This could and does end only one way for these unfortunate visitors.
But apart from those slimy tentacle aliens, other groups, such as the USNA, the Sages, some terrorist groups, some Chinese mafia, as well as Japan's own military forces and backstage crime families decided to throw their hats into the fray. Sadly for them, they dared step foot into the domain of the Man himself and got rightfully clapped into submission.

No visual effects conceived and created by human beings can even try to represent the immeasurable perfection that is the existence of Mansuya!
Sound: 4
The only sounds worthy of being associated with His Holiness are the sounds he himself makes when he educates the unwashed masses, as well as the lamentation of his defeated foes.
Characters: 4
There is only One character worth mentioning in this Anime and He is written in the very title. But being the humble and gracious Master that He is, He allows the the existence of additional humans in his presence. So let's go through some of the disposable meat sacks that tag along.
We have the big breasted megane girl that can see things, the spiritual guy that uses spirits, the big breasted twintail girl who thirsts over our Chad, the short haired kuudere that also secretly, most likely thirsts after Him, the redhead tomboy with medium breasts, the tall, muscular but brainless punching bag jock, the plethora of irrelevant walking CO2 factories, the majority of who also thirst for Godsuya, some black-eyes grandpa, some big breasted, big haired aunt, some blue eyed blond twintailed big breasted american exchange student, and, of course, the big breasted little sister. They one and only purpose in this anime is to contrast the ideal image of the gracious and wonderful Mansuya with their imperfections and mortality.
Enjoyment: 8
Do you enjoy seeing one character literally stomp the ever-living hell out of his adversaries. Do you enjoy seeing a justified harem? Do you enjoy seeing God himself descend upon humanity and repair a 2000+ meter high building in a split second WITH HIS MIND? Do you enjoy long, made-up science jibberish being shoved down your ungrateful throat? Then you have made the right choice by picking this anime!

If this anime consisted of Tatsuya and Tatsuya only, the score would have been a perfect 10/10. Unfortunately, he is forced to mingle with a contingent of mortal rabble on a daily basis, who's only redeeming quality is being a stepping stone for Him!

Normally, I wait until I've watched the entirety of an anime before I make conclusions on whether it's garbage or glorious. Not this time! I've been following the manga of this particular... piece of work for quite a while so even without having finished the anime I can confidently write a review that will be objective and faithful while also being simple eno.... simple e... simp...

abomination of an anime.
We have the story - a lonely college virgin simps over a perfect woman, giving her hundreds (potentially even thousands) of $ of his hard-earned money so that she spends time with him. Maybe even speak to him from time to time. Hell, if he coughs enough dough, she might even hold his hand! I MEAN, HAND-HOLDING!!!1 Oh, there is some revenge plot line with his ex that, even after 150+ manga chapters, we've yet to see what she's actually planning. But she's there, hiding and biding her time like Thanos. We also have some secondary girls that show up and thirst after the virgin simp for... reasons? Because this is a harem after all. And hordes of wet kouhai are swarming around their favorite senpai. Just like in real life, right?

The characters - I will spend some time explaining why I hate each and every one of them.
Mizuhara - a perfect, 11/10, super talented and hardworking, smart, interesting, funny, can cook, can clean, cares for her ill grandmother, wants to become a movie star. If God ever decided to create the perfect female, he would undoubtedly look at Mizuhara, then proceed to dump her in a trashcan and actually try to make a normal human being. Mizuhara is, apart from all those perfect qualities, completely indifferent to her simps, lies in their face, pretends to care for them, provided they shower her with money, then forgets they exist once the time they paid for expires. Even when someone goes out of their way to idolize her, elevate her to the status of an angel, as she can do no wrong and is perfect in every single aspect, and basically devote their life to serving her every whimsical desire, the most she can muster as a response is "thanks" (I'm not even joking, in the manga, without spoilers, the mc does extraordinary feats of servitude, the likes of which I've never even seen, literally dedicates his every waking moment to serving her and making her dreams come true, and after 150 episodes of him doing so, she only says "thanks" a few times.) Mizuhara is a horrible person, garbage as garbage goes.
Kazuya - the simp. He does it all - he pays for his goddess, he thinks of her 24/7 (literally), he pleasures himself to the thought of being in the shower with his goddess (literally), he spends $$$$$ on her (literally), he ignores the advances of other, potentially better women that actually care for him, just so that he remains faithful to his goddess (literally), he even makes the dream of his goddess COME TRUE (LITERALLY) and in the end he is rewarded with... nothing really. I mean, that's it. He did/does all that and his goddess Mizuhara does... nothing... in return.... for him...
Mami - the ex. She's a conniving, backstabbing, self-centered, greedy, jealous, vengeful and awful person. But she's hot. Basically, a realistic person. While not really a love interest currently, she has some insidious plan to take revenge because, in her mind, the simp has to stay miserable. This plan is, as of the latest manga chapter, yet to even be show, but she's out there. Like Thanos! Ready to SNAP!
Ruka - the girlfriend. Yes, the actual one. Not the fake, paid actress. Ruka actually says she is the simp's girlfriend. She's jealous, yet forgiving. She's stubborn, yet understanding. She's cute, yet a bit yandere. Out of all characters, she's the most interesting and the one I'd actually be ok winning the race. But we all know that won't happen. Because, at the end of the day, if she not a thot, he will not trot.
Sumi - the shy one. She's also a piece of garbage rent-a-girlfriend-liar but she's BAD AT IT. Like, she can't speak to any of the customers because she's super shy. The only person she can comfortably hang out is the simp, but ONYL if he pays for it. My modest theory is that she also likes the simp and if the simp were to profess his love to her, she wouldn't mind dating the simp. He'd still be paying though...
Aaand that's it basically. There's nothing else going on here. Story is god-awful, characters are the embodiment of cringe, some make me want to puke, some make me want to pull my hair, some make me want to smash my TV. As far as enjoyment goes, if you're a masochist that hates himself, you'll likely enjoy this anime.
I certainly don't.

I don't always write reviews. But when I do...
Well, let's just say this is yet another disappointing anime to write home about. We've been getting a lot of those lately and my hopes and dreams for the future have been nigh diminished. But enough about my self-pity, let's get a move on and see why exactly this show fails at nearly everything.
Story: 4
A weak part of this anime is the story. I mean, it's an anime about badminton. What more can one want? Here's an idea: how about a realistic depiction of the sport? With actual tournaments arc? And not individual matches here and there
...
in the first half and then one boring tournament that focuses on only 2 of the characters? Quite frankly, there is nothing to even compare this to - story-wise it's a dry dish. No spice, no flavor.
Art: 7
Nothing spectacular but nothing bad either. I found the art to be satisfying and enjoyable. I didn't go "OMG" and my jaw certainly didn't drop but it was "ok". Minus the unrealistic amounts of sweat comign from the bodies of those teenage girls. I mean, you'd reckon they were playing badminto in a sauna with the amounts of sweat protruding from their pores.
Sound: 5
Was there sound? A forgettable OP, even mroe forgettable ED, almost no thrilling soundtrack during the actual matches. In other words - mediocre.
Characters: 2
Yet another weak point. Probably the worst thing about this anime was its character cast. We have 2 main protagonists and... that's it. Pretty much 0 development for the rest. (sure, we get some dramatic training sessions with some minor characters that - guess what, go nowhere). On top of that we have contradictions left and right. To finish off, we have absolutely scum characters trying to act all righteous.
A mother that abandons her child and goes abroad to play mommy with some other girl. One could say that Ayano gets NTR'd by some danish chick. That's a new...
We then have Ayano herself, who goes from being an absolute monster of a badminton player, to being an average schoolgirl that hates badminton, to then being a psychotic badminton player, to being an average school girl again. If I was even a mildly-proficient doctor, I'd lock her up in an institution.
Her counterpart, Nagisa, is your typical "hard-worker" that overcomes everything. As if... give me a damn break, people. If this anime wanted to shove this "hard work beats talent" crap down our throats, they should have renamed the anime to "Hard-working sweaty teenagers beat the shit out of a badminton shuttle". You go try to play a 3-set badminton game with a blown-out knee against a far stronger opponent, and try to score a point. Then come and tell me about all that hard work that paid off.
And my least favorite character is that danish NTR chick who goes to Japan to fight Ayano because ?she has some ?beef with her?? I'm really not sure about her motivation. She then basically mentally insults Ayano with that little speach about "Mom only cares about winning", ONLY to come a few episodes later and try to be all friendly and family-like with the girl, who's life she single-handedly ruined. Talk about being the lowest of scum...
Enjoyemnt: 2
The only way I could have enjoyed this anime less was if they added bad CGI. Which is saying A LOT.
Overall: 4
Again, the rules of mathematic prevent me from giving this anime a lower score. And I would have, believe me. This is one of those rare times, when I actually think MAL's score is being TOO generous.
As parting words, all I can say is: Watch at your own risk.

This review will contain spoilers about the show "Comic Girls". So, if you don't want to be spoiled, please watch the anime before proceeding to read further.
"Comic Girls" - a show about cute girls doing cute things. Oh, and also drawing manga. Surprisingly, I thought it would be one of those generic cutesy anime that have been flooding the industry as of late but it turned out to be pretty funny and likeable. With that being said, there are certain elements that stood out as being rather weak, which leads me to give this anime a lower score than I want.
Story - 6

school girl joins a mangaka-only dormitory in order to develop further and grow into a fine mangaka. Easier said than done, as this particular high school girl is rather bad at manga, receiving the worst possible reviews and having zero fans. To add salt to injury, her manga skill isn't the only thing that's underdeveloped. Still, she is determined to make it and with the help of her very colorful party of fellow dorm companions, her journey into the world of manga has just begun.
Sounds good, right? It would have been even better, had there actually been any significant development/improvement in her skills. Or her character. Or anything for that matter. While the story does include her to a certain degree, it's pretty episodic and I felt that more attention was paid to the issues with the other tenants. In the final episode, she miraculously manages to, seemingly over a short period of time, draw a coherent manga - something she hasn't been able to do in years. Only to fall back down the path of rejected manuscripts during the outro.
In short, the story starts somewhere and goes nowhere. It was nothing more than a sweet experience of a year in a manga dorm.
Art - 8
The art was pretty solid. I think anyone, who's in it for the visuals, will be left satisfied. It is very colorful, very pleasant to watch and it really brings out the characters to life. The choice of color for all the characters - from the cool-looking tomboyish Tsubasa with her dominant blue, to Ruki, with her purple image of a grown-up and mature woman, to Koyume, with her radiant yellow/orange signifying her playful and energetic persona, and Kaos with her pink childish style. I'd say the art nailed the tone of the anime pretty good.
Sound - 7
Let's face it - the soundtrack in most of these cute anime is something not many people would listen to outside the actual anime itself. Still, it's pretty chill and relaxing. It sets the mood quite nicely and works well with the overall tone of the anime. Nothing mind-blowing but nothing bad either.
Character - 6
Another low score. But hear me out.
All the characters go through some sort of development. Tsubasa was portrayed as this cool-looking tomboyish girl but she was also shown to have a girly and cute side to her, and also went through a bit of development. Koyume, who was, at first, the filler character for me, quickly got her spot in the show and had a pretty nice episode dedicated to her. Fuura-senpai, the creepy stalker girl also had a bit of spotlight, although only briefly. But, most of all, Ruki was, for me, the character with the most development. Going out from being extremely embarrassed about her *cough* work, to actually taking pride in it due to the support from her fans. It was truly beautiful.
Did I miss someone? I think I mentioned everyone. I' sure I did...
Oh, Kaos-chan. Relegated to a side-character for the most of the anime. Truly a pitiful soul. I mean it - the amount of dirt thrown at her throughout the anime made my heart break. It was too much - such a pitiful creature cannot exist (if you don't believe me, just read her 2nd career choice). For me, this was overkill. Extreme overkill. This anime did NOT need to spit so much on poor Kaos-chan. In my mind, this was the worst part of this anime - the over-demoralization of this otherwise extremely pure and kind girl. I barely managed to sit through a few hours of her being shat on (pardon my french) by pretty much life itself, let alone actually being in her shoes. It was.. so sad. Couple that with her lack of development through the majority of the anime and you get the picture.
Enjoyment - 9
Still, I enjoyed this anime. Damn, did I enjoy it. It was pretty funny, pretty cute, sad at times, scary at times (Fuura-senpai). It was all. And it could have been even more. If only... IF ONLY!

Sadly, the average from the above prohibits me from giving it a higher score. Please forgive me!
Final words: Do give this anime a shot. It won't win the "Anime of the Year" award, nor will it blow your mind. It won't make you cry tears or laughter, nor tears of sadness. It won't leave you full, nor empty inside. But what it will do is give you a couple of hours well-spent, which you won't regret - something that a lot of anime fail at.

What is "I love you"? We know what those words mean, we've seen them, we've heard them and we've read them. And we've spoken them. But do we really understand the value they hold, the weight they pull and the strength they possess?
I started watching this anime with reservations, partly due to the synopsis, but partly due to experience with teen drama anime. And since I finished watching it, a particular question has been circling in my mind - When will it stop raining?
Koi wa Ameagari no You ni is, as the title suggests, a love story. But it's not your typical boy-likes-girl or
...
girl-likes-boy. No, it's girl-likes-old-man. This might seem off-putting to some but to me it was a deciding factor in this anime's success. But in order for me to express my thoughts further, we'll need to delve a little bit deeper into the anime itself.
Story - 10
The story is about Tachibana - a high school girl who, having suffered from a trauma, has given up on her dream to run and is now casually floating through her youth. That is, until she seeks shelter from the rain in a family restaurant. The manager, a kind and gentle man, offers her a small gesture of hospitality. Which accidentally sparks the flame of love within this pure girl's heart. She then starts working part-time at said restaurant, in order to bridge the gap between her and the manager - Mr. Kondo. The hurdles, however, are many and far in between - an age difference of over 28 years, jealous co-workers and shaky friendships. However, with this being said, it's not only the love side of the story that's facing problem - the various characters also have personal issues to deal with. Tachibana with her longing for her dream of running competitively, yet giving up due to a injury. Mr. Kondo, with his youthful desire to write, yet giving up on it as it drove him apart from the ones he loved. The story takes us on a tearful ride through the many obstacles that await us in life. And, for those of us, lucky enough to encounter that one spark of love, this will be a shot straight through the heart.
Art - 8
While not being the main selling point if this anime, the art was decent. At time, it felt bland but it served to only paint the main characters in a brighter light. The simplistic facial expression of Mr. Kondo contrasts perfectly the beautiful and smooth characteristics of Tachibana. A drop of beautiful on an otherwise boring and plain canvass.
Sound - 10
Utterly breathtaking. I can't describe how emotionally touched I felt while listening to the ED. And, if I can be selfish for just a moment, I would like to say that, regardless of what anyone says, Aimer's song fits this anime perfectly. There is nothing but pure emotion emanating from every note. No, I'm not crying... I'm NOT, YOU'RE CRYING. SHUT UP!!
Character(s) - 8
If there is an area this anime is weak at, it's this one. While our two main protagonists get lots of screen time and development (rightfully so), the same cannot be said about the rest of the cast, with most of them having brief, if not episodic appearances that, although influence the story going forward, do nothing to further establish themselves and their background. I really liked the exchanges between Kondo and Chihiru and I wished I could have seen more.
Enjoyment - 10
I thoroughly enjoyed this anime. The emotional ride it took me is one I never expected to experience going into this. Unlike Violet Evergarden, this anime took a sweet and gentle approach to love. Without needless misunderstandings, without any shock factor, it managed to accomplish so much. If I had to name a scene that will stay with me, it has to be Mr.Kondo embracing Tachibana on that stormy night. It was beautiful. There is nothing wrong with wanting love, there is nothing wrong with wanting a companion, someone who understands you. And, even though he realized himself that his feelings might have been too frivolous to be called love, he still embraced her. That night, he was her umbrella, protecting her from the cold, unforgiving rain.
Overall - 9
My parting words to those who read so far - give this a shot. Love is something that has no bounds, has no limitations. It is difficult to understand, yet simple to express. It is impossible to describe, yet possible to show. And whether we choose to accept it or deny it, love will be with us, within us - now and forever.

Dropout - one of the most anticipated (at least for me) releases this year. As an avid fan of Fan no Hitori's work, seeing his title truthfully and skillfully animated bring me joy and happiness beyond belief.
The story is funny and ridiculous, yet oddly believable and intriguing. Students that receive poor grades and drop out are turned into sex objects or, as they put it in the hentai language, cumdumpsters. Tools to be used by everybody. While this may seem highly unlikely in today's society, it's not entirely implausible. History has shown that those with no intellectual capacity tend to gravitate towards simple tasks, such

as manual labor. And what easier job for dropout women than to spread their legs and service men? Overall, while it may be ridiculous to some people, it is by no means a stupid premise.

I had my fears that the art would fall short of the quality that the manga had. Those were, however, extinguished as it was announced that EDGE would be taking over the animation for Dropout. And, truth be told, they delivered. Not only is the art true to the source, it also retains that "EDGE", which the company is famous for... get it? Edge... because it's also the name... ah, nevermind.
Grade: 9
Not much to say about the sound. As with most hentai works, the voice acting is pretty top-notch and on spot. The one remark I personally have is the splashing sounds when there is a sex scene. It sounds almost as if kids are playing in puddles. Not crucial but could have been done better.
Grade: 8
The characters in this animation were what really stood out. We have a variety of personas.
First off, we have the smart, talented and beautiful Shichijou Reika. She has everything she needs to be on top of the world. But instead, she chooses to become a sex slave. He reason - she was tired of the expectations people had of her and wanted to live her life free of those gazing eyes. And what better way to do that than to be degraded into a cumdump? One might argue her logic or sanity but I, for one, admire her dedication and spirit.
Next comes the shy and quirky Tarou Niimi. He's always had a crush on Reika but never managed to speak to her or approach her. That all changed when she became his personal sex slave. Whether out of love or lust, he awakened to his sadistic nature and truly became her master... in every sense of the word. Other than that, there isn't much to say about him. He's there to provide his cock and he's doing a damn good job.
Side characters include Shiroshima - an upper classman that used to date Reika, and Watarashi - a girl that has the desire to be Shiroshima's personal toilet. Both characters serve the purpose of bringing diversity to the anime.
Grade: 9
Anyone, who has seen and liked EDGE's titles will definitely enjoy this one. And anyone, who is a Fan no Hitori... fan (damn) will most definitely like the animation.

Dropout - in this day and age of vanilla hentai, flooding the industry, this title is a beacon of light, shining brightly to all the hardcore hentai lovers. Truly, an oasis in an endless desert.

So, Shingeki no Bahmut: Virgin Soul. The much anticipated sequel to the 2014 anime (in my opinion) Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis finally aired it's 24th and final episode and boy was it a major let down. Let me get straight into it.
Story: 3/10
The story picks up 10 years after our heroes have saved the planet from a certain destruction. And what did they get for their selfless sacrifice? Favaro is MIA for half the season and Kaiser in stuck in stagnation as the commander of a dying-out military force. Some nobody is out of the blue named King and is following closely in the footsteps
...
of an all-to-familiar 1939-1945 dictator from west Europe. Janne is exiled for reasons beyond my understanding. Demons are discriminated and considered as trash, angels are being massacred left and right for no reason and humans are just kind-of there. A NEW character is introduced, without any background or foreshadowing, without any character development or contribution and we're somehow supposed to jump aboard.
Skip a few episodes (23 to be precise) and we come to the conclusion where, SURPRISINGLY all the bad guys turn out to be ACTUALLY good guys, some people die, get forgotten and the BAD guys, who turned GOOD guys get to live happily ever after as heroes. Sound like LeLouche? Well, it's LeLouce only without him dying but instead getting everything he wanted and more.
(those of you, who actually sit through this 24 episode of time-waste will understand)

Just like the prequel, the art in this sequel is top-notch. It's not on the level of Unlimited CashWorks but it will leave you satisfied if visual effects are all you're looking for.
Sound: 5/10
Let's get this straight - the bad-ass opening from season 1 is gone and it's not coming back. The OP and ED in this sequel are not worth mentioning and the soundtrack in the actual anime is almost forgettable.
Characters: 3/10
Bland villains, bland main character, little to no character development, lots and LOTS of plot armor for the important characters. NO plot armor for the side characters. Not really the strong point of this anime (much like the story). Bad guys turning good - cliche as cliches get. The true bad guy defeated, but not really, so that a 3rd season cash-grab can be made - check! If you're into mindless action and shallow storytelling, with little to no character presence, then this anime is PERFECT for you.

The first half of the anime had potential. The second half ruined it all with it's horrendous storytelling, cliche characters and predictable plot. Not to mention the sacrifice of key characters without their contribution to the story being fully told.
Overall: 4/10
I wish I could give it a lower score but the average from the above 5 categories prevents me from doing so.
To summarize: if you are into a shallow story, with bland characters, no development, lots of minutes (potentially hours) wasted in idle chatter, some battles and some moral discussions, all leading to a predictable ending (with a few sad but overall overlooked deaths here and there) then this anime is definitely for you (poor soul).
I do hope we NEVER see a third sequel, as that will most certainly butcher an already massacred anime.

Each and every season I skim through all the titles that are released. Winter 2017 was no exception and, with Gintama making a glorious return, and the much-anticipated and hyped Konosuba 2nd season, it seemed like all the other titles would be swept under the rug. And for some, that was the case. I didn't really pay much attention to Kuzu no Honkai and thought it was going to be yet another run-of-the-mill drama/romance anime (God, we've had our fair share of repetitive romance attempts). With a cruel, yet elegantly execute swing, I discarded this anime.
It was only later
...
that I found a certain AMV, covering the first episode of the anime, and was instantly intrigued. The accompanying song was No Resolve - Love Me To Death, which, in my mind, fits the first half of the story perfectly. It was after watching that AMV that I decided I would pick up the anime and watch it as soon as all 12 Episodes aired.
I don't always write reviews. But when I do...
Let me warn you from the start - this won't be your typical review. I'm not going to post scores on the Story, Characters, Art or Music. It's hypocritical of me to judge a persons (singular and plural) work, criticizing it and even bashing it, without me having tried it myself. The majority of people on this platform do this, which I find "disgusting". Instead, I will tell you why I think this anime deserves attention and why you should give it a shot. So, here we go.
First off, this isn't your typical romcom, drama or whatever you want to label it as. It's grounded in reality, even though it sometimes exaggerates it a bit. It showcases the primal human emotion - lust, and builds on it using the more vague and hard-to-define "love". Can you explain in a single sentence what lust is? Can you do the same for love? You see the difference. The character(s) are seemingly driven by "love" but as time goes by and the plot unravels, we see that each and every one of them ultimately succumbs to "lust". In this aspect, the most human character out of the bunch is Akane, who understands what she is, how she "feels" and accepts this. She doesn't pretend to be anything better than "trash" and even admits it later on.
"Trash" - one of the key words here, as sad as this may be. This anime doesn't sugarcoat anything, it gives us the raw meat. Which I find admirable. More often than not, people's feelings fall on deaf ears. More often than not, people are rejected. The one thing that this anime does wrong, in this aspect, is the awkward relationship between Hanabi and Mugi (a lot of people will disagree here). Very, very, very rarely will you find a person, willing to enter this kind of non-sexual, yet bordering on sex, kind-of relationship. They go on about using and being used, yet in the end they come to the same point, from which they started. That point being, that they are the same kind of "trash".
I've had my fair share of unrequited love. I've been dumped casually, I've been lied to, I've been rejected, I've also rejected. Which is why I can relate to the characters. You don't want to let go but you have to. And even after you let go, you remember the past and slightly cling on to it. That was for me, at least. And, even though this isn't a review on my past experiences, I think it's good for one to come clean and say - yes, I've done those things, I've seen those things. Deep down, I was also trash. Maybe still am...
So what does this leave us with? A trashy anime? Misery simply for misery's sake? I beg to differ. We have a story that tries to pay attention to every single character (succeeding most of the time). While all appear to be horrible people, no one is inherently bad. And even if one strays from the path, all it takes is for someone else to push them back on the right track. I think this anime does well in "redeeming" the "villain". It doesn't give them a sappy backstory - no dead parents or dead lover, no revenge plot. Instead, it delves deep into the person's psyche and explains to the viewer how the "villain" views themselves, the world and the people around them. And, no matter how black and white we try to make it, in the end there are no absolutes. Same goes for the "protagonists".
It's hard to review this without falling on the security of cruel numbers and grades. But this is the best I can do without hard-spoiling the story. Because, no matter what is written here, it will ultimately be up to you, the viewer, to decide whether this anime is good or bad. All I can say is - give it a shot.
