I used to love this manga to death.
Back in 2017, when the 1st season of the anime came out, I was immediately enamored by the charm that oozed out of every episode of Dragon Maid. This inspired me to pick up the manga and read ahead-- I was so invested in the relationship between Tohru and Kobayashi, and I was similarly invested in the supporting characters and their relationships with Kobayashi. I was a little offput by Lucoa's existence as a big-breasted sh*tacon (and basically as bait for c**mers), but I didn't mind her so long as she wasn't a common appearance and the fanservice

between her and Shouta stayed mild. I ran a Dragon Maid meme account in 2017 for Pete's sake... that's how much I loved the show. I was an active reader of the manga.
I think the series began its downfall when Iruru/Ilulu showed up. Dragon Maid was in need of a new villain after Tohru's dad was defeated, but a child-like dragon girl with even bigger breasts than Lucoa was a huge turnoff and controversy throughout the fanbase-- of course, the c**mers loved her though. Then you got the fanservice like Kobayashi getting a special part in her nether regions (iykyk) which was clearly meant to attract fans of f*ta to explore the series and draw art/write fanfiction about it. Furthermore, Iruru was constantly shown in an NSFW light, which was weird. This is when I discovered the mangaka was an open sh*tacon/l*licon, and he even drew NSFW doujinshi in his free time-- some of which included characters from Dragon Maid like Kanna. I was disgusted by this, but it finally made sense why he loved adding in scenes with Shouta, Kanna, Iruru, and other children in the series being nude or in inherently sexual scenarios. I decided to try my best to ignore these scenes, skipping them when necessary, but the scenes that I decided to look at increasingly became more and more disturbing. The chapter where Iruru is in heat is especially egregious, where she gets nude and tries to "mate" with Tohru, Kobayashi, or Taketo. I'll never understand the people who defend all this by claiming that the dragon kids are actually thousands of years old... yeah, but they still look and act like children-- Kanna even goes to elementary school!
The plot just gets crazier from here. Excuse me if I don't recall the details entirely (it's been a few years), but Kobayashi becomes a wizard, Elma almost gets married to a dude with three different personalities (don't get me started on her weird l*li grandma who wants to secretly date Elma or Kobayashi), the Sword of God becomes this nonbinary kid who shows off their genitals to Kobayashi and the others to prove they're nonbinary (and they also conveniently decide when they want to visit), Tohru is training to be a better fighter with her fists or something, Elma is in love with Tohru and wants her to abandon Kobayashi and leave the human realm despite her knowing how much Tohru loves Kobayashi, Georgie (Saikawa's sister) is pretty much in love with Azad (reminder that Georgie is 15 and Azad is 25)... it's just all so ridiculous.
I can't defend Dragon Maid anymore. Almost all of the recent chapters are much more sexually explicit than the earlier chapters (Chapter 134 has Kanna with exposed panties, exposed bare feet, and a scene where she rubs a folder/paper in-between her strangely thick thighs while Iruru does the same with her breasts).
It is SO WEIRD. Where the h*ll did the sweet and endearing slice-of-life plotline go? Absolutely nobody besides c**mers wants to see this lewd garbage. The OG fans will tell you they stuck around to see Kobayashi and Tohru's wholesome relationship grow, while newer fans will tell you they stick around to see the fanservice. I doubt many OG fans are left at this point because of how much the plot has veered away from its original story.
God bless KyoAni for animating two seasons of Dragon Maid (as well as some side content) because I doubt they'll want to animate these future chapters. They did a fantastic job with adapting Dragon Maid, and I hold no hate against their work.
I don't believe I've EVER written this much about any anime or manga, nor have I written so passionately. I am heartbroken that this manga fell off so hard, as I truly wanted it to succeed. I have no choice but to abandon ship, and I encourage others to do the same.

Literal visual eye candy. Every second is a blast to watch, and every beat of the song is entrancing and sparkling (much like the titular character Ai Hoshino). A must-watch for Yoasobi fans, AMV [Animated Music Video] fans, and "Oshi no Ko fans"! There's something for everybody in this music video, and the 23+ million views on YouTube (as of April 20th, 2023) are much deserved. I can't wait to see what else both Yoasobi and "Oshi no Ko" have in store for the anime and music worlds!
The flashiness was the only aspect of the music video that may be off-putting to some viewers.

One of the most shocking anime I've ever watched... and this is coming from somebody who has watched the likes of Madoka Magica, Oshi no Ko, Death Note, and Violet Evergarden. Do NOT go into this thinking that it's going to be the same "family found" spy anime that you may have seen before. I genuinely cried at times while watching this show. If you're looking for a spy anime that will subvert your expectations, look no further!
I give it a 9 instead of a 10 because, let's face it, it's impossible for most anime to be worthy of a 10/10 score. The musical score

repeats itself often, the animation fluctuates in quality, some of the voices can be a bit jarring at times, the jokes don't always land, and the plot seems to speed up exponentially near the end -- HOWEVER, the anime makes up for these flaws by having a clear and straightforward plot that takes several unique turns. I would say that this show is slightly better than SPY x FAMILY, but that would cause me to be kicked out of the anime community, lol.
I'm usually not one to give out content warnings by the way, but this must be said... CONTENT WARNING FOR: domestic ab*se, child ab*se, m*rder, d*ath of a pregnant woman, s*xual themes (though not too explicit), alc*holism, and s**c*de. Excuse me for censoring these words, but I have to.
That's all I have to say, I think. I thoroughly enjoyed this anime, although I doubt it will ever get a second season. The English dub is worth checking out too, by the way! :)

I understand that a lot of people dislike this anime, or they consider this anime to be sub-par, and that's okay. However, I really love this series. Is it super edgy? Of course. But is it a bit of a refreshing break from the same "kawaii"/"moe", sparkly, and girly magical girl shows that we usually get? Yes. It's not a masterpiece, and it definitely will never top the genius that is Madoka Magica, but it is still very much worth watching for those who like shows that defy the stereotypes expected to be followed in this genre.

~ STORY ~ 8/10
Pretty straightforward, with very sudden and unexpected plot twists throughout. Some people complain that Aya's "misfortune" is "unrealistic" alongside the "misfortunes" of others, but I see it to be possible, just not common. I really enjoy all of their motives and how they work against or team up with one another.
~ ART ~ 8/10
Not awful, but not gorgeous. We can't expect an anime series to have the same quality as, say, a movie (even Demon Slayer's animation in Mugen Train is far superior to the anime in the anime). I still love the art style though. Aya's design, alongside Kosame's, are two of the character designs that I love the most. I also love how the characters look when they've transformed into their "magical girl" forms.
~ SOUND ~ 7/10
The music is pretty, but it repeats a LOT. I'd say the soundtrack is roughly 10-15 songs. Not as much as Madoka Magica, but around the amount as Dragon Maid. The songs are placed nicely though. One of the beginning scenes with the cat nearly brought me to tears. The composer definitely knew what he/she was doing.
~ CHARACTER ~ 9/10
I just love all of the characters in this series. Do I love some more than the others (*cough* *cough* Mikari *cough*)? Yes, of course I do. I still value the presence of all of them though. They all contribute something to the story which is very valuable.
~ ENJOYMENT ~ 9/10
Not much to say that hasn't been said before. I love the darkness of this series. I'm always on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen in the next minute. The show never fails to bore me. Every scene has a reason to exist, even the ones that don't involve Aya. They all bring something to the table, from motives to plotlines that will be addressed later on.
~ OVERALL ~ 9/10
While I'm not done with the show yet, I still love how it's going so far. I hope the show doesn't pull a 'Darling in the FranXX' and completely ruin everything the last couple of episodes. Sorry to all of my FranXX fans out there.
I'll be sure to update this once I'm done with the series... If it's not updated, then my stance of the series remains the same. I appreciate the existence of the series, and I pray that we can get a second season one day despite the show's overwhelmingly negative reputation. It's not every day we get a magical girl show quite as brutal as this one.
Time to get ready for work. Sadly. I'll watch more of the show when I get home if I don't pass out. (lol)

Words can't explain how beautiful this masterpiece of a movie is.
It's gorgeous to look at and a film worth your time. You will be sucked into the world alongside the main cast and be absolutely amazed by what you will see in this journey to freedom.
Just like the original anime: Easily 10/10. No questions asked. This is a MUST WATCH for Madoka Magica fans, even if you are more of a casual fan and aren't too interested in the lore. I promise you that you won't regret watching this movie.
Beautiful animation, beautiful soundtrack, beautiful story, beautiful ending... beautiful everything.

I usually never write reviews, but I just wanted to quickly emphasize my disappointment in this anime.
As this is the only shoujo ai/yuri anime of the year thus far, I was really excited to watch it. Yuri and shoujo ai are two of my favorite genres right next to magical girl and fantasy, so I always look forward to checking out the newest anime. Adachi to Shimamura was a pretty alright anime, but I was hoping this one would be better since it has that fantasy element to it.
Boy... I'll just give you bullet points:
1) Mediocre soundtrack
2) Animation was definitely rushed and the CGI is
...
INCREDIBLY obvious
3) Each episode's plot is extremely rushed (they like to shove in as many chapters as possible for some reason; probably because the anime isn't getting a million episodes)
4) No character development or exploration at all. For real. Toriko is from Canadian veterans and carries with her a gun for no reason, Sorawo is a cat lover who is your typical college student and fan of creepypastas, Kozakura is a loli who stays alone in her home all day doing nerd things, Akari is basically Sayaka from Magica Magica-- ah, and Toriko has a magical hand, Sorawo has a magical eye, and they're looking for Toriko's best friend/lover Satsuki. That's all you need to know.
5) You can literally predict every episode: Toriko and Sorawo are together drinking beer or doing cute things (or in some episodes, they're bugging Kozakura in her home), something creepy suddenly happens and they realize they're in the Otherside/Urasekai, they try to attack the creepy thing(s), Sorawo has to save Toriko from being brainwashed for the hundredth time, Sorawo shows Toriko where to place her magical hand which creates a portal for them to escape, and they go out to drink again in celebration for surviving.
Honestly, just read the manga. Please. It's so much better.
