Its fun.
The characters are extremely basic except for the antagonist -for once a yandere measured out to perfection. She's obsessive but they don't go psycho yandere face with it. Its a more subtle take on it that makes the terror seep into your skin. Like all card game shows its a barebones advertisement for structure decks and clans with zero application to reality but part of the fun is trying to figure out the mechanics as they don't really explain them much. Worse they straight up skip whole duels and into new ones with no context. I honestly thought I skipped an episode but whatever.

Holy shit this show is bad.
Takemicchy is an unbelievably stupid protagonist on paper and in application and it bleeds into the time travel mechanics. He basically does nothing to change the course of events but things drastically take a turn anyway because the author felt like it. Its like watching the climax of a JoJo fight but it skips "ah so you think you've won..." posturing and explanation of what the protag did to win and skips straight to something absurd. In an important fight Takemicchi teleports onto the back of a 6 foot tall delinquent and chokes him out despite suffering heavy injuries and ...

This isn't really an isekai as the main character is frequently played out as a resident of the fantasy world and the narrative benefits from it.
The main character Will is much like Tanjiro, a goody two shoes protagonist in a setting devoid of prepubescent teen ecchi bait. He and the characters around him feel very genuine if not on the bland side. They feel somewhat more like DND characters rather than ones written by a middle schooler who did nothing but read isekai growing up. It avoids tropes quite easily though the animation suffers. Very poorly executed and lost sight of itself.
Season 2 of ZLS attempts to make more plot without committing and more spotlight on new supporting characters. After a very strong start ZLS 2's episodes lose structure and meander constantly while taking out the main characters almost completely. A great example is the biker gang episode with Yamada where she kind of just shows up around the supporting characters and doesn't do anything. Compared to the yakitori episode from season 1 the execution is devoid of stakes, compelling characterization, humor, setup+payoff and the horror references they liked to play around with. More for he kind of people who like pretty boys + vampires. Jojo's Bizarre adventure accomplishes more in 5 minutes than this show did in 30 with its nuanced storytelling and unrelatable MC. When the most impressively tenacious and brave character in the episode is the bro character you know your powers of characterization is weak. The opening was good. Frankenstein Family is an extremely rare Chinese manga adaptation that focuses on family bonds and maintains that every episode. The short 20 minute episodes successfully trim out harems, convoluted love triangles, confusing plots, and fanservice. The plot itself is slice of life level mediocre, with the monster family's focus frequently shifting in different directions and the child genius main character Tanisu causing those deviations by always being 100% child and 0% genius.
