CGI: Try watching just one episode of Initial D 4th season, done in 2004, and then compared it to this show done in 2024. I don’t understand, is technology going back in the anime industry? You need to commit to make a CGI bad like this. It makes the all show very disappointing to what.
Animation: Pronto? Hello? There is someone here? Ah fuck, the animation guy is off for coffee. Have you seen how cars move in this anime? I know it’s an anime, so it’s not real life, but guys! That’s not a fantasy anime, or maybe it is? Is MFG setup in a
...
word where gravity didn’t exist like for us?
I can’t stop comparing this to Initial D, considering the author want us to consider this as a sequel, but everything is so bad. It’s obvious that CGI and Animation is the first thing you see and noticed when watching the show, even Initial D 3rd season have much better CGI and Animation, we can start comparing this to the 2nd season, made in 1999. And unfortunately the story isn’t much better. Then we add the infinite scene of driving like watching Captain Tsubasa on his infinite field, with the very annoying commentator voice. What a puzzle we have here.
Characters still very "generic" and bland, they lack motivation and all dialogue are very poorly written, no change to the first season on this matter. There is no much to say on that, because dialogue is really flat, drivers tend to not talk at all when driving, you can't sense their sensation, like on Initial D, the only talking is done by the announcer, that generally repeat itself constantly and make itself pretty boring and annoying. There is no technical talk, like on Initial D, no technicalities about engine, cars, etc, driving skill etc.
I can’t stop thinking how bad of an idea, and unrealistic it is, having public street as racing scenario for a legal racing competition, how dangerous it’s driving on a situation and condition like this, both for the drivers and people living near the street. And how it’s more impossible for the racer driving cars without safety features like roll bars. I know it’s an anime, it’s not real, but it’s not a fantasy anime too, right?
We still miss Eurobeat. But we still have a 200hp car surpassing very easily a 500hp car, absolute plausible. And fortunately we have Angels giving us fan service.
I could add more, but I don’t want to make a long review, I think the one I make on the first season, summarized everything about the anime.
EDIT: to answer to the guy that make a good review probably in my response:
Initial D was a deep story, they make 4 seasons and one movie, it's a deep story about a guy becoming a legend of drifting, we see him having difficulty on some battle, learning new stuff every episode, loosing is beloved car, knowing new people and making new bonds. We see him on a ton of different scenario, from love problem to helping friends, etc.
If the story of someone living his life, isn't a deep story, i don't know what can be one!
MFG story? Surely not deep, there is no story at all.
Initial D was a realistic depiction of racing, in fact Initial D is inspired by real fact occurred, the Drift King could be a good topic to search and learn. And MFG is obviously set on a possible realistic scenario, we can say a fantasy, considering the anime.
Initial D is pretty realistic in car movement, surely some are very difficult to do and need pro drifter or people really skilled, but it’s not impossible, we have real example on real life too. Initial D is a very good representation of drifting in real life and car movement and handling is done very well.
We can absolutely pretend that Initial D is much better, we can't even compare them, it's like day and night. Starting from animation, CGI, characters development and grow, quality of the story, diversity in the scenario, very good and study dialogue, tons of technicalities about how a car work, driving skill, car scenario etc. I could talk for days about differences. It's like white and black, both colours but totally different in the spectrum.

TLDR
This is NOT an Isekai and slice of life that talk about magic tools and inventions.
This is a shoujo and romance anime.
There are some basic things wrong, in this anime. That’s what i correlated on the 4 episodes i've seen, literally 1/3 of the anime.
Just follow me, my argumentations are pretty easy to understand.
...
- We start with the title: “Dahlia in Bloom: Crafting a Fresh Start with Magical Tools”, what do you understand reading it? What do you feel and imagine reading the title?
At first glance, there is someone, probably a Girl from the name, she is on her best form, that’s why she is blooming; she’s probably a craftsman that makes magic tool, and maybe she is blooming because she had a bad experience, and she’s starting fresh new.
So, we know that’s basically someone that craft magic tools, right? So you would expect an anime where there is a girl that craft magic tool.
- If we study the info about the anime, we know it’s a fantasy, a slice of life and an isekai.
So, this girl is probably reincarnated, in a fantasy environment, where she crafts magic tools and the anime is about her crafting, and so i would expect seeing like the process of crafting, getting idea for things, making things, maybe some economy parts too, etc.
Do you know what is an isekai? I don’t want to quote the all Wiki article, but what make sense to be an isekai in the end, is the fact that the person that got reincarnated/move to the new word, keep the memory of itself and remember almost everything of what append.
So, you have the base, now i would analyse the 4 episodes i see:
- The anime start with the scene of a woman, doing spreadsheet and then having a nap on the keyboard (probably dead, i know that spreadsheet can be mortal). Then the anime start with the “new world part”. The rest of the first episode is related to the protagonist, we would see her from child to adult.
The isekai part, it’s 30 second, and there is no other mention all along the other 3 episodes and i’m sure that’s all i would see, considering we have already seen her grow to an adult and don’t remember anything.
What they think? That adding the “Isekai” tag to an anime, make it more popular?
They could have removed the first 30 second, and wouldn’t have matter anything to the anime, and its story. Yes, there is a situation where the girl “invent” something not available on the new words, a hair dryer, wow, that’s it? Or the raincoat? If this is the isekai related part, that she’s not an inventor at all, copying things that already exist, that would break the all story even more!
- Then we have the all story itself, i told you before, that from the title, you would imagine an anime about crafting and invention, right?
Wrong, that’s a Shoujo, it talks about romance. The anime is all centre to the woman protagonist, her personal relationship, gossip with friends and people around her, about the romance situation, some bad write drama, be betrayed and other love and romance. Do you think i would watch it, knowing it was a romance anime? NO.
All 4 episodes are related to romance situation, with a small part on the first episode, related to inventions. That’s it, there is no “Magical tool” and the fresh start too is related to a new romance start. That’s the classic romance anime where the protagonist get her first bad experience, and then she knows the men of her life. Done.
I think a better title for this anime is: “Dahlia in Love”. A title like that, surely wouldn’t attract people like me, that would have love, to watch a slice of life about craftsmanship, and invention.
In the end, after having a wrong title and genres, where even the author don’t know what he/she is writing; the anime is generally mediocre, with basic art and animation, some ok CGI for the flame/magic animation, general light and some strange bubble you see in the background sometimes. The story and trama is pretty basic and obvious, with the second episode we can already know how the anime would finish, considering it’s a pretty standard romance story. The script is poor, but in line with a basic romance story. Character development is pretty bad, starting from how the protagonist react to some bad romance act in the first 2-3 episode with her fiancé, and after how everything develops. Of course there is almost no growth from the main character, about magic tool and craftsmanship in general.
That’s a bad anime, and it feels like the story too is probably bad written, not just a bad transposition. I would finish it, and i would probably lower the vote to 4.
Personally, i’m not impressed, that’s pretty standard, the average anime quality in the last 7/8 years, has dropped a lot, finding good show in new seasons it’s pretty rare, without talking about sequel of other anime.
Don’t waste your time, avoid this anime.

No doubt humour is subjective, but when a show is boring, there is no much to do. I’ve watched the first 3 episodes, and the amount of times i laughed or even smiled, is equal to none. When the amount of time i feel the need to move forward the time cursor on the media player, was almost every few minutes.
The anime lack almost everything: from the average animation and design to the very poor CGI, the 3D animation makes me vomit; there is no script, the writing seems done by a monkey, the average gag is pretty bad, and it’s just a desperate
...
attempt to randomly catch the viewer attention. There is no chapter development, there is no drama, the only character we know something is the blonde hair girl, but even that, the background is very poor and bad written. I know it’s a humour anime, so certain things doesn’t matter a lot, but this anime feels empty and extremely repetitive, but in a bad way.
The anime doesn’t “stand up”, it feels created in a hurry, by placing some random piece together, without thinking about the outcome.
Every season or two, there are to be some humour show, that does everything except humour, and this one it’s just on point, starting from: why using a Deer? I don’t get the point, what i’m missing here? It should be a joke of some sort?
I can easily say, that the only good things is the Intro, but just the first time you hear it.
There is no much to say or review, considering how basic the anime is.
This show is a waste of time.

Each episode is 24 minutes, circa. 5 minutes of recap, one minute of OP and 2 minutes of ED.
Just 15 minutes for the show, then during the show, the amount of flashback people got, is amazing, we can easily remove 5 and more minutes, 10 minutes for the real sauce.
Real sauce? Ah sorry, the real sauce, yeah yeah, give me 10 minutes and i would find something.
This anime has many issues, but the worst is the pacing, the feeling is that nothing is happening, the real content of 5 episodes could be fit in just one episode and still slow to watch. One rescue
...
could take 4/5 episodes, where there would be much time dedicated to the recap of all the precedent episodes instead of new content, some episodes are just recap and flashback, so totally useless.
The 18 episodes i watched until now, could be fit in 7, i don't understand why forcing to make 24 episodes when 12 would be more than fine. Money? More AD on the Tv show? Generally making more EPs would be expensive, but considering they are just recycling the same animation and part of video of other episodes, to make recap and flashback, maybe they can lower the overall price and still make more profit.
Hard to say something on the characters, considering the low amount of content, and the poor contest where they fit. There is a learning curve with the main characters, but is very slow and out of contest.
The story is all over the place, there is no one main strand, and the pacing ruin everything. Sometimes they start with good detail about what happening, but then they start ruining it with useless flashback and recap.
Art and sound are on the poor side, probably on pair for a budget anime.
Watching this show is a waste of time, not worth.
It's a shame that something this important, like the service that those real rescuer does, is compared to a low quality show like this.

I start episode 4 and, mmhh, did i miss an episode? Better watching the end of episode 3, nope, miss noting, my bad.
I start episode 5....what i'm missing? Did i see the previous episode?
Today i start episode 6, déjà vu? What's wrong with this anime?
There is no explanation whatsoever, i can't understand a thing!
Struggling to find a patch to follow in the story, hoping for the next episode to tell me something, each time different scenario, more characters and more things to follow without knowing what’s going on. I can't figure what the main plot is, what the main characters are trying to achieve
...
and why, every episode is a mess.
There are very big voids, there is no continuity in the story and scenario in general.
The story in general is too vague, if not poorly written, is poorly demonstrated, it's very difficult to find some logic and stay with the story. The first episode was difficult to digest, but i was hoping for an easier solution on the other episodes, instead they keep adding new scenario, new chapters, new things, without giving information about the old stuff.
It's a mix of poorly design choice, the story doesn't stick and don't tempt you to keep watching the anime.
The characters have mostly the same design flow of the story, they look all the same, no development and growth of the main chapters, just a bunch of people throw in.
Art is the only nice thing that remain good, but pretty much destroyed by the average animations. Not only, the characters look, looking into this anime is like looking on other anime, every character resembles me of other characters on other anime. They look pretty familiar, pretty copy and paste, not original, like a cliché, they don't hit.
Rating could change, but i don't have hope for this anime. I'm pretty disappointed with Studio Bones.

MF Ghost is not a sequel to Initial D. Mostly a fake attempt to draw attention from Initial D fans.
The anime show can be nice from a general point of view, even if at the limit, mostly because it wants to inherit a lot of things from Initial D, mostly because it't the same writer and because money and studios need to make them, but, there are ton's of missing spots and problems, that if not present or better managed, would make this anime a very good one and a real sequel to Initial D.
Few points:
- The MFG trial is a good idea,
...
but on an Anime placed on a realistic environment, like Initial D was, it's an impossible idea to realize, you can't have cars driving and competing at 250km/h on a public road, with a ton of possible hazard, but it's an anime, so, we can pass on that.
- Bringing back some people and some name from Initial D, doesn't make it a sequel to Initial D or anything related to it, it's just a bad commercial move to tempt people to watch an anime based on loyalty to a very good anime.
- Eurobeat, apart from the opening, the only song i recall it's on the last episode and just a bit, but ok, we can pass on that, it's not Initial D.
- Cars, that's an Anime, a Japanese Anime, inherit from Initial D, people want to see JDM! Where are my JDM cars! I give nothing about Ferrari and Lamborghini, even if i'm Italian. A very big part of the show is missing here.
- Initial D was somehow realistic, with a 1984 Corolla competing to late 1990 cars, not a lot of difference in age and power or technology in general, and the one used from Takumi when joining Initial D, it's a modified version with a 4A-GE used on the Group A AE101 cars, we are talking about 240hp at 12k RPM, that's a lot for the era, more than enough to blow a EVO.
Now we have a stock GT86 with a 2 liter and less than 200hp, competing to 500+ hp cars, and winning! Totally plausible, just follow the line of the demo car!
- Writing, where are the technical stuff, engine technicalities, skill and driving technique like on Initial D or Wangam Midnight.
Chapter development? It would be fine if the anime was a sequel, with the old chapters, but we have a main chapter that is like god, a good boy liked from woman and with special life skill like perfect memory, in addition to perfect driving skill, so there is no growth to this chapter, what i'm learning there, there is no way i can feel close to this one, with Takumi on Initial D, we grow with him, it's like be with him on the all journey and plot. On MFG the plot is too weak, loot of point recall to initial D but on a very poor way.
- Angels? We need them? All that fan service? I would prefer watching the bonnet of an R34 opening.
- CGI? Why? The one on the 4th season of Initial D was a ton better, more like a drawing, very well make and very fluid, this one, is like playing Asphalt on Android. Don't tell me is a money problem, considering the amount of stuff made to get more view.
- The annoying announcer, the annoying show in general, like 4 episodes to make 2 laps on a street circuit, only scenes of cars going on, was like watching Captain Tsubasa with Oliver going to an infinite football field.
There are ton’s of issue, the problem is wanting to implement this anime on the Initial D universe, maybe it would be better just having Takumi driving for MFG, not with the old 86 and not with the new GT86, with European cars but mostly JDM, with not angels, and a lot of good writing like on the old Initial D.
Giving it a 5 is like doing a favour, and hoping for a better second season, was mostly mixed feeling, but after thinking about it, i wouldn't recommend this anime to anyone, it would be a waste of time.

I'll be short. This isn't a racing anime. There is no motosport or racing moment.
This anime is categorized as Racing Anime, but there is no race in this story, the point is: someone that generally want to watch a racing anime, is because he/she is a car lover, and want to see real or fantasy racing, depend on the theme of the anime, but generally want to hear stuff related to motosport, engine or driving technique and skill. Take Initial D for example, for sure there is love and other things involve, to create more emphasis, but 9 episodes on 10, are people racing on
...
the street, with different animation of people driving, and a lot of talking about engine technicalities or about driver's skill.
This isn't a Racing Anime, this is a Drama anime, a good one, no doubt; the story is actually nice, a solid 6, drawing and audio are fine, CGI not that much, but it's a low series anime; a lot of drama, but not racing involved. If it was categorized as Drama only, it would be a solid 6 for me.
But, the fact is, i couldn't care less for the photographer, yes, bad things append, but where are the car's moment, engine take apart, driving situation etc? Engine parts lying around on the shop, Haruka and Koutarou taking things apart and setting up, Futoshi talking about driving tactics and planning tires to use, watching weather for conditions, etc.
If my desire was to see a drama anime, i would choose a drama anime! Like anyone.
I'm not giving a 4, because i actually see worse stuff this season, and this one is watchable and nice, but not in point with the theme.
There is no problem with people giving a higher vote, they just need to understand that this isn't a racing anime, because if someone is watching for new stuff and searching for a racing anime, something like Initial D, Wangan Midnight and came across this one, he/she would be a lot disappointed after few episodes, thinking it would be similar, reading good stuff on the review or seeing a high number vote.
