This show is dreadful.
Awful comedic timing. It's so bad that it ruins every semi-serious scene. It's distracting to the point of making the show itself a joke.
Story: 2/10
The story itself can be summed up in less than three sentences. A competitive runner pees himself during an important race, forever wallowing in self pity and shame instead of ever getting over it. He then becomes a gaming nerd who allows himself to devolve into a human doormat. He finds a hyper realistic RPG that can potentially fry his console and decides to play it instead of throwing said game away.

The main character is so unlikeable that it quite literally makes this show painful to watch. He whines nonstop and never actually becomes worthy of anyone's respect. He's lazy, short sighted, and quite literally has no redeeming qualities until the literal final episode.
Please do not make a season 2.

This manga is really stupid. In a good way I guess... There are some panels and scenes that are just so unbelievably dumb that you just can't help but laugh.
Overall I quite enjoyed the few key moments that this manga had to offer, all of which genuinely made me laugh. There's a scene where the main character Denji is literally in a life or death battle but decides it's time to go all out because he's motivated by his reward: getting to touch boobs for the 1st time in his life.

not really going to get one. Chainsaw Man follows a sort of monster of the week format for the majority, with a lot of 'randomness' in the writing (or whatever you decide to call it).
In short, it's not a very compelling piece of storytelling but a great manga to turn your brain off and just enjoy the ride.
The art is pretty overhyped. Scenes are very chaotic, true to the nature of the piece, but very lacking in thought or composition. In between scenes and paneling are very weak or uninspired compared to the action panels.
This is not a manga I would ever give a second read unfortunately, but it is memorable to the point of enjoyment.

This review contains few to no spoilers.
I need to address this immediately. The main character is not a self insert. Anyone who says so literally does not understand what the term means. On that note I find myself admiring the protagonist. A lot. He is a well written anti-hero (despite his title) and has his very clear motives, drives, and distinctions from your typical protagonists, to the very extent that it is even difficult to relate or identify with if you're not in a similar boat as he is. rapist'. He is very spiteful and distrustful, but justified in being so. He's not set on clearing his name. He is set on moving forward with the fuck all mentality and living because of the shitty hand he was dealt. With all that said and done, let's move onto the review.
The pacing of this anime is phenomenal. I'm really not saying this lightly either. It not only pushes a plot at an incredible pace but does it absolutely stunningly. There's enough emotional weight in all the plot points and how they are achieved that you end up caring when frankly they seem insignificant at the surface level.
The plot premise is a well devised corrupt monarchy setting. The separation of heroes and their abilities is well thought out and seems limitless. This anime is the epitome of what great world building looks and feels like. Backgrounds aren't just there to be backgrounds, they feel like they set the stage and are... well the actual setting!
Story: 9/10
I read ahead in the manga. It's so captivating that I couldn't wait for the anime to finish to discover more.
Animation/Art: 10/10
Although it's not a benchmark, it reaches far beyond what I was expecting from another of the isekai genre. Character designs are sleek and meaningful. Backgrounds are absolutely meaningful and not just there.
Sound: 8/10
Quite good but mostly just gets the job done. There are a few tear jerker moments where the music hits just right. Will mention that there is one soundtrack that has 'ominous' music playing that has the sound of random squeaking metal hinges in it that is out of place in some scenes.
Character: 10/10
This anime is about companionship and trust.
The main cast is so endearing. The main character is a cool but tragic anti-hero. He is the way he is because of everything thing that has befallen him. He makes the best out of bad situations when anyone else would collapse into the fetal position crying. The other characters are whatever. The main cast is all you need. My only gripe is Filo, but I have to give her leeway as she's written as a character who is > 1 year old.
Enjoyment: 10/10
This anime is a blessing from the isekai gods. Pretty much a must watch.
Pacing: 11/10
I can't emphasize how amazingly well this anime is paced. It blew me away. I came in not expecting much as I was gravely disappointed by the pacing of animes like Tokyo Ghoul and Fate/Apocrypha. This anime knocks pushing plot + adding emotional/enduring weight to its main cast out of the ball park.
Isekai Meta or Fantasy-> about 8:2
They use words/phrases like Level Up, System, This World, and Game. It's pretty meta.

Is this a good Anime? TLDR Honest answer: Not really.
Contains Few Spoilers
Fate/Apocrypha suffers from a fundamental issue that most of the Fate Animes have which is, run time. There's not enough time to develop 20+ unique characters in a 25 episode anime. It's just physically impossible to give meaningful screen time to that many characters and have them in anyway shape or form fleshed out to an acceptable degree. Anyone who has attempted to write stories would know.
That said, I personally think that the anime did an alright job with what it was likely given for a script. Plot was

pushed at a somewhat acceptable pace but certain events still did not feel like they had proper buildup or felt improperly transitioned into.
Certain aspects of the story are somewhat nonsensical and feel forced. Seig's character is the perfect example of having a cool idea but not actually taking the time to connect all the points as to how the character finds himself flowing into the story. He is absolutely thrusted into the story and given more screen time than he really deserves. Why? Because he is the Shirou Emiya of this story unfortunately. He's a Mary Sue most likely due to being a "blank slate" type of character. That said, I don't understand why they chose to develop another Shirou Emiya style character when they have a perfect example of a character who just works for this style of Fate Anime: Kiritsugu. Doesn't require much effort to introduce as his skills and actions do the introductions for him.
Certain parts also lack proper screen continuity. The side that is attempting to infiltrate the flying fortress is using airplanes to get close. Jeanne gets blasted and wrestled to the ground off an airplane then magically teleports onto the fortress minutes later (Why even bother with the airplanes if you can get onto the fortress no problem?).
Animation is absolutely eye candy at certain parts. Character designs are sleek and fit (most) of the cast. Overall is very consistent but coloring becomes off in certain action scenes in the last stretch (Likely ran out of time, money, or both).
What this anime did achieve was:
1. Make me appreciate the Karna I pulled in Fate Grand Order over a year ago that I have sitting in my character bank at level 60.
2. Make me an Astolfo fanboy.
3. Wish that they just figured out a way to make a 50 to 100 Episode anime for a Fate story that was affordable and paced well enough to make me enjoy and care about the cast that's present. The story suffers so much from the 25 episode screen time constraint.

Not the ugliest anime I've ever seen, but bad camera angles, lots of still images, and derpy facial structures.

About as good as a 1990's anime sound gets.
Characters: 2
The most compelling character was the girl who got her head blown off at the beginning. Her companions were in a state of such disbelief and grief that they brought her headless corpse to the medical department to make sure if she could be saved or not.
Oh, and then there's Takeru.

If you want cheap and completely unintentional laughs, this is the anime for you.
This is 'The Room' of the anime world. What not to do. This, and Berserk 2016.

I'm going to state this right off the bat, this is not the anime for everyone. Its draws are the cute-girl moe archetype and its target audience is a mixure of ecchi loves, lolicons, and shoujo manga readers. People who enjoyed OreImo can easily enjoy this anime as well, but here's the review thus far.
Story: 7
The story is an interesting premise. A light novelist is working with an insert art illustrator whom of which he has never met in person. Said illustrator turns out to be the shut-in little step sister who he has been living with for years.

author takes a similar approach as Netoge where he forces the main protagonists together in a very obvious 'coincidence' in order to tell the story in a proactive way: 'face to face'.
EX. of non proactive: in different cities and communicating only via email/skype/phone.
Aside from that, the story boils down to the main protagonist, Masamune, trying to get his sister to abandon her shut-in ways, all while working together to write and illustrate light novels with their respective roles.
Art: 9
A1-Pictures. Expect great quality, get great quality. Not as beautiful as an anime such as Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (I highly recommend). but definitely better character design than OreImo. Cute moe girls are undoubtedly cute.
Sound: 6
Pretty average. Sound track isn't super memorable. Gets the job done.
Characters: 10 thus far
I see so many other reviews bashing the characters. I will honestly defend them and say that the characters have a very human traits MANY of which are idiosyncratic and niche traits that only certain people will relate to and understand. CHARACTERS ARE NOT STATIC AND BORING. The 2 main protagonists are clearly growing and changing which I cannot understand where other people come from when they say that the characters feel 2 dimensional or static. Are they genuine? Yes. Are they interesting? Depends on what kind of people you find interesting to be perfectly honest.
Izumi Masamune: Hard working onii-chan who has trouble catching breakthroughs with his works. Writes from the soul. Has a massive thing for his beautiful imouto.
Izumi Sagiri: Became a shut-in after grief stricken by the passing of her mother (birth mother).
Yamada Elf: Overly eccentric popular writer. Writes for fun, profit, and marketability rather than work.
Enjoyment: 10
This is a personal score as I'm bound to enjoy this series more than the average viewer as it resonates with me at the personal level as an amateur writer and artist too. A lot of the laughs i get from the series come from how human the characters feel. Can't say nor generalize all of the series, but it definitely has a situational comedy style to its humor (the best kind of comedy imo btw).
Overall: 8
Definitely not a 'must see,' but I definitely recommend it to people looking to get a good growth story of two step siblings trying to build a bridge between one another.
