HIGURASHI NO NAKU KORO NI-it is definitely one of the best anime there is:-). I liked it from the very beginning. I don't think i ever watched any anime with so much concentration. Same goes for kai(2nd season)

Plot:The story begins with the arrival of The main protagonist Keiichi Maebara, a young boy who has recently moved to Hinamizawa with his family, and begun to adapt to life in the countryside. He befriends with the other 4 main characters SONOZAKI MION,RYUUGUU RENA, FURUDE RIKA and SATOKO HOUJOU. He starts living peacefully and enjoying his new life in HINAMIZAWA. But soon he comes to learn about the ... darkest secret of hinamizawa which terrifies him badly. And then he starts his struggle for survival.
What i have written above is only the summary of the first chapter ONIKAKUSHI-HEN. There are 5 other chapters in 1st season which and interlinked. U will be at a loss first watching this. But trust me if u watch with sheer patience, you will definitely be rewarded
Art: not the greatest. But still it is good:-)
Soundtracks: soundtracks are definitely the plus point of this anime. Especially the opening song sung by Eiko Shimamiya named "HIGURASHI NO NAKU KORO NI". This one is so awesome *_*. Same goes for the ending "why,or why not". Also sounds matching the scenes is good
characters: a wide range of characters is definitely the plus point of anime. U will see peace lover KEICHII. Both cute and violent RENA and SHION. Strong willed leader and quite tomboyish MION. And there is RIKA and SATOKO. Satoko played a great role. RIKA is n't given priority in this season
Since this series contains a great deal of violence, child abuse you shouldn't watch this if u have any problems. And don't back down only after watching the first two min of the first episode
i know you will have a lot of questions while watching this. Don't worry, there is almost(or none?) no plot hole. You will statrt getting answer from chapter 4. You will find it interesting them. And ofcourse there is S2 for the rest of the questions
