WARNING: "Monster" is not the type of Anime that is recommended to young audiences, as it consists of violent scenes and a few nudity scenes.
First of all, to the true fans of psychological and thriller type Anime, "Monster" is probably one of those Anime that you do not wanna miss out. The event of the Anime takes place during the period of Cold War in Germany, specifically during the period of Berlin Wall dividing Germany into the East and the West, and the period after the fall of Berlin Wall. With this in mind, it is for sure that you will be coming across
...
some facts of the historical events, especially the struggle for power among elite groups within the country and the discriminations of German citizens on other ethnic groups.
The story is centred around a Japanese doctor named Tenma pursuing a cold-blooded serial killer Johan, who along the way murders many people that have ties with him in order to erase his traces for investigation. Doctor Tenma, who feels responsible for saving such a monster back to life 10 years ago, now sets off on the journey to stop the serial killer. Throughout his journey following the killer, doctor Tenma is then accused to be the killer instead, thus besides pursuing the real murderer, he has to evade from being caught by the police.
The development of the story takes a slow pace to include many events and introduce many characters along the way. Even though I thought that it might be boring with the slow progress, but I was proven wrong by the author and producer, they really know how to make each episode of this Anime enjoyable. I was also pretty curious why the author kept on introducing so many new characters along the way and thought that some were not necessary, but then again, I was surprised by the fact that some characters that were introduced along way, later had significant roles in story, which took me by surprise.
Even though the story is mainly focused on pursing the serial killer, there were many mysteries along the way. Each of the mysteries was uncovered one by one, sometimes those were mind-blowing, which made me pretty much enjoy the psychological aspects of this Anime. The author really never failed to impress me.
The art may not be very good, but if we take into consideration of the fact that the Anime was aired in 2004, I would say it's quite good. But most importantly, because the event in the Anime was happened in the 20th century during Cold War, I think they intentionally kept the art to be quite old as during that period of time. Overall, I still think it's good.
The sound, especially the OPT and EDT, at first I really thought it was quite creepy and dark, but this may be well suited for this type of dark psychological thriller Anime.

Definitely one of the best Sci-Fi Anime ever created.
Let's begin the story by how hesitant I was to try this Anime since a long time ago, probably because it didn't appear that catchy to me at first. However from times to times, the Anime has been quite well-known and highly recommended by the internet people. So I decided to dive into the Anime to see if it's really a great piece of work.
After going through about 25% of the Anime, it appeared to be pretty normal and not that interesting. From what I could see was mostly the continuous introduction of new characters and
...
some laboratory works on the mystery that had taken place there. But as the story went on, it began to get more intriguing as more mysteries taking places in the laboratory. Later, at around half of the story, when the mad scientist Okabe as well as his lab members successfully created the time machine, it is almost unbelievable that the pace was getting intense and making me believe that the half of the story was to lay groundwork for the series of events later. A lot of events related to time-leap and time-travel then started to take places, the psychological and emotional aspects of Steins,Gate began mixing up making you unable to take your eyes and minds of the events. So if you really get there, you wouldn't reject that Stein;Gate is an amazing piece of work.
If you are looking for an amazing piece of work related to Sci-Fi and Psychology, you are at the right place. Don't let the first few episodes fool you, the interesting parts of the story will come later and amaze you.

First of all, if you are reading this review to give you some ideas to decide whether to watch it or not, I’d say “just bookmark it” because you wouldn’t easily find much realistic farm life Anime that is so enjoyable and relaxing like “Silver Spoon”.
For a general description on the Anime, you might read the synopsis or some other sources to get info on that. Thus, I’d make this review clear-cut as to why this Anime is very interesting:
1. Hachiken’s life is so realistic that can be related at some points such as the indecisiveness on the future goal, the difficulty of sudden
...
transformation from urban lifestyle to agricultural lifestyle, the fun of having friends being around, the joy of hardworking and so on.
2. The author, Hiromu Arakawa has done a lot of research regarding the agricultural practices, especially related to livestock farming. Besides being able to enjoy Anime, it is no doubt that we get to know some knowledge and techniques on how modern agriculture works.
3. Seeing how food can be so delicious with freshly collected ingredients in their own farm, it makes you wanna have a life like that just because of the tasty food.
4. On top of that, the beautiful OPT and EDT are really well-suited for the Anime by adding refreshing flavours to the Anime.
5. But most importantly, the Anime may not make you laugh out loud, but it will certainly put a smile on your face after each episode without realising it. Why can I be so confident about this? Experience it yourself and try to prove me wrong if you can :P
Anyways, if you ever find yourself liking it afterwards, I have a good news, season 2 is there for you :)

First of all, the Anime is not the type to watch for fun out of free time without having to think much, it is more of an educational Anime, where it leads us to think critically about the events taking place in the Anime and to compare those events to what happen in real life, "thought-provoking" would be great to describe this Anime as you will need to think carefully about the concepts behind each episode.
Along with the journey of Kino and her talking bike Hermes, you will come across some events that people tend to normally take for granted or challenge the generalised concepts,
...
which will raise questions in your thought. Some questions were raised in my thought when I watched this Anime, some questions for instance:
- "Does getting to know all of other people's thoughts would necessarily lead the society to a better place to live in?"
- "Will people always return good favour after you have helped them?"
- "Would religion, superstitious belief actually lead society to a better place?"
- "Does culture and tradition really lead people to enjoy life"?
- "Does majority or democracy always lead to the right choices on everything?"
There are more questions and lessons that you could actually learn by watching this Anime, the Anime really does an awesome job on provoking people's thoughts. Surely you would wanna watch it yourself if it really is as what I have just said, but to me I really enjoy the concepts behind each episode of this Anime :)
