There are two kinds of bad anime, anime that you know are bad but you watch anyway and anime so bad you drop it. This anime definitely falls into the latter camp.

I had not heard of this anime until I happen to see a comment on a Youtube video mentioning that it was receiving a new season after over a decade. Many anime, specifically romance anime this old can sometimes feel dated, but Kimi ni Todoke is absolutely timeless and tells a beautiful and emotional story. It's not unusual for an anime to tell much their stories through a character's inner monologue but the way it's handled in this anime feel somewhat unique, intimate and very sweet.
