Japan is a nation where people are meant to play by the rules. You should do what people say and not think highly of yourself, since you're just a pawn in the greater system which is their "rationality". Blue Lock is basically a giant "fuck you all" directed at that concept. This manga portrays ego in a way I've always thirsted for. It's extreme, intense, and illogical just for the sake of being fun.
Isagi, the protagonist, starts off as being an average player who's long lost his real drive as a striker. Japan's philosophy twisted his fate as a forward by suppressing his ego.

After losing in a match, which would've gotten his team to nationals, he is invited to project Blue Lock, a facility where the best highschool strikers in Japan have to play against each other, so that one sole ace capable of becoming the best player in the world can emerge.
The combination of intense matches and stunning art synergize like forks and power outlets. Few sports manga look as cool as blue lock. The anatomy is clear and the artistic representations of the character's abilities is some of the sickest in manga. Each page i turn i have to put on a new pair of underwear. After getting blasted by beautiful panels, you're then presented with probably the corniest and edgiest dialogue you can possibly imagine. Shit like "your evolution's slow, blue lockers" and "I'll devour you" or my personal favorite "the ball is the seed and the net is the egg". Literary masterpieces. While that may be cringe, it somehow works anyway and is really part of the charm. If you can laugh at it (like me) then you'll love it and if you're cringe (like me) you'll also love it. There's a ton of cool characters who develop constantly and the way they influence each other is really interesting.
Though I have to warn you that you probably shouldn't think too deeply into the matches. If you pay attention to things like "why does noone ever foul" or "wtf that's not offside?" then you'll probably get pretty annoyed. To me blue lock isn't really about logic, it's about irrationality, intense moments and braindead fun.
If you're looking for fun, then blue lock is definitely a must-read.

The romance genre has been synonymous for "drama" and "misunderstandings" for as far back as history can recall. The few exceptions that do exist usually end up being generic and boring stories with no substance to them, targeted towards people with small and smooth brains that need to fill a void inside of them (aka me). However there is one redeeming factor for these types of shows, the factor of cuteness and sweetness that could give that last push towards a heart attack to any person with diabetes.

manga fills you with this overwhelming sense of wholesomeness, that can make you forget the fact that your life is actually pretty garbage. Looking at the couples in this show made me feel like a 13 year old girl, the way it got me giggling.
You'd think that'd get repetitive but that's not the case, since there's actual character development and the dialogue is pretty fun. My favorite character of the series, for example, is this self-critical guy who initially prejudices the protagonist to be lower than him in the social-food-chain, but quickly realizes his own flaws and grows from it. I believe it's things like these that make the cast feel 3-dimensional and interesting.
The art style is also really clean and easy on the eyes, which fits perfectly for this type story. If you have even the slightest interest in romance manga, then I highly recommend you give this series a shot.

SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST FEW CHAPTERS
When it comes to football manga, Ao ni Nare brings something to the table which is not often seen.
It's a story about a prodigy who was gifted an insurmountable amount of talent for the sport he loves, whose path which he seemed to be predestined for was crushed by reality in an accident.
What makes this series special compared to other manga that revolve around football, is the main character's struggle to get back to the level he once was at. Even though he suffered from a major setback, which made him incapable of even walking for two whole years,

now having lost the touch he once had, still, he never gives up.
It's a beautiful and inspiring journey, filled with intense and unpredictable action-filled matches, compelling relationships between characters and dynamic art and paneling which portray movement in a manner that's easy to keep track of. The art style itself might not be everyone's cup of tea though.
However be warned, that the ending, while not being the worst thing ever, is not really satisfying to put it nicely.
I recommend it to anyone thirsting for some football manga.

Ruri dragon isn't really what some might call a breath-taking innovation when it comes to manga. It's your typical quirky slice of life but with it's own twist which the entire series revolves around, most of the themes tackled by the manga correlate to said twist. It's a lighthearted (for now) story about a girl living in a regular society who finds out that she's actually a half-dragon and we as the audience get to see how that changes her daily life.
While the plot in of itself might not be all that intriguing, the manga still manages to shine thanks to the relatable characters and

it's realistic dialogue which results into the series having a coherent feeling to it. I often get annoyed at how sudden and nonsensical a lot of manga can be, it constantly ruins my immersion. However, in Ruri dragon, the characters reactions make sense, it feels like the cast are having actual conversations, which is what i found to be the series most enjoyable point.
The comedy though, is where i found the story to be quite lacking, which isn't really anything new when it comes to slice of life (at least for me). Despite not really making me activate my facial muscles while reading it, it still manages to be moderately entertaining.
The art is solid, the facial expressions are expressive and interesting to look at and the paneling is easy to keep track of, so overall it's quite aesthetically pleasing.
I would recommend it to anyone who isn't seeking anything thought provoking and just wants to read a comfy story.
Now, having said that:
HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE SIZE OF THE ACTUAL DRAGON???? Now look at the mother, then look at the father, then try to explain to me with a straight face how that's supposed to work. Either the dragon is capable of shrinking or perhaps change form or the mother is just built different. I hope she's elastic or something, cause that's got to have left permanent damage.

First of all, this isn't a review meant as a message or advice to anyone reading this. It's more of a way of coping.
With that being said, Sonny Boy is a show i really wanted to enjoy and admittedely, there were quite a few aspects that resonated with me, such as the aesthetics, the soundtrack and the cloudyness in my head I was feeling while trying to understand what the story was trying to convey, or perhaps not even really to "understand" but to interpret it in a way of my own. pay attention to details and find out more about the world in Sonny Boy, though at times the dialogue gets so convoluted that it turns into a snoozefest. There's alot of appealing concepts which really made me feel like i had found something special.
However after finishing the show I was left with this awfully bitter taste in my mouth. The source of it being the unsatisfying and underwhelming conclusion to the story that i just can't seem to wrap my head around.
In my mind i keep defending it trying to convince myself that the lack of emotion I felt after watching it is what the story is meant to represent, since regular life can feel like it lacks any kind of real meaning but despite that we could face reality, see it for what it is and try to make the most of it. But regardless of that i just couldn't find any beauty in it. The decisions made by the characters, made me feel like i just wasted my time watching the show. It all felt so pointless. Maybe it's my personal bias talking but despite that I just find it such an ugly way of portraying monotony. It felt like the creators wanted me to be like "yeah maybe this isn't so bad" with a smile on my face and high hopes for the future, but instead i just felt frustrated and couldn't empathize with the characters at all.
I didn't quite know how to feel while watching Sonny Boy, but i found it to have alot of charm and had high expectations for it. Unfortunately, it's in stories like these where the conclusion matters the most to me. Perhaps had it ended off on a more positive note or maybe if it had more room for interpretation I would've given it an 8 or higher, but as mundane as it is, I can't bring myself to give it a better score than this.
Despite my criticism, I still hope to someday look back on it and think to myself "awwww, I get it now :D" but until that day comes, I'll be left with these mixed Feelings.
