Akame ga Kill was undoubtedly an enjoyable anime, albeit not groundbreaking stuff. Emotionally, it tended to ramp up in the second half of the season, and it was sections like this that, I will willingly admit, choked me up a bit, but it definitely did not bring tears to my eyes.
The action is slick and well animated, and happily, the gore does not detract from the quality of the anime, but blood is spilled, and plenty of it. This was one of those animes which had a massive amount of potential, but then seemed to take a wrong turn near the end. It seemed as if the producers had run afoul of their budget and then quickly rushed the series to keep the big boys happy.
The build up to the latter part of the anime is definitely worthy of recognition as one of the better series, but then things begin to unravel near the end where the whole tone becomes rushed and abrupt.
