It is similar to death note because there isa team of investigators that wants to stop the Light Yagami or the death note owner and in tokyo ghoul there is a group of investigators that are trying to stop the ghouls. If you read both manga you will see that you will be on the bad side and want the evil to win. The good people look like evil people.
