I wish I could write a separate review for Episodes 1-18 then 19-24...
Loved this show up to about episode 19... then, as so many other places have detailed, it takes a hard nose dive almost as if it's trying to out wtf Evangelion's crazy ending(s).
The soundtrack is spectacular and quite a few of the characters, while they may not be completely fleshed out, do a really good job of portraying things we all know and contend with: Loneliness, jealousy, belonging. The ladybots are a little weird, but what can you expect, it's Japan.
Then episode 19-24 happens... I would have infinitely preferred the show

Yes, I'm very very late to the party. Obligatory when this came out I'm sure it was much stronger due to much less competition.
But this day and age... I'm mostly a mech anime consumer, so really, really really wanted to love this show as it's one of the most iconic titles in the genre. It's been on my list forever and I never got around to it. For the most part, I did enjoy it quite a bit right up until about episode 22, allowing provision for a couple of character relationships that were just not believable in any capacity.
