In This Corner of the World is an anime movie you do not come across often nowadays. It blends a slightly ghibli style with a more mature approach yet it is neither dark nor overly idealistic. It's a story that could have easily been live action but in using animation we are invited to live with the main character and her feelings. It's very character driven in that sense and I'm sure we all know someone like the main character honestly. She is very forgetful and has her head in the clouds, which is perhaps what makes her charming. Nevertheless, the story does not shy
...
away from certain topics that are uncomfortable pertaining to her personality to an extent and also arranged marriage and the atrocities of war. I think it is quite realistic in the sense that it portrays these topics without leaning too much into tragedy (quite different from Grave of the Fireflies for example). We are being given an optimistic take but what I took from it was that even though ugly at times, life can still be beautiful. Of course I think it's very significant that all this is based on real events and makes you really ponder how people might have lived through them. The mangaka seems to have family from Hiroshima and in it gives me the impression of being very personal.
Regarding the art style in my opinion it's simply amazing even though you definitely wouldn't think so at first. As you watch the movie you come to realize how much it actually fits the theme and also adds a touch of fantasy that the story wouldn't have had otherwise.
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone, whether an anime fan or not. For me it is a cultural piece that is meaningful and important.

This series seems to have received a lot of good ratings and while it was quite good at keeping you at the edge of your seat I have to say that it failed in a lot of aspects.
Art:
Maybe this is just my opinion but I thought the character design was not be suitable for the theme of the series. There are shows like Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica that also have this but the character design in Madoka was quite unique and it stood out making you guess. In Shinsekai Yori the character design is really common and it reminded me of some shoujo anime like
...
Yumeiro Patissiere. This is the reason I say it does not seem very fitting. The eyes were huge, even for an anime and it seemed out of place considering the world they were in. I also noticed an inconsistency in one of the characters as they aged. Other than that I think I preferred some of the episodes where the art changed even though it was really strange and by the end it was a bit better. I really liked the backgrounds and the color palettes were really nice at times. Also, the character designs for the queerats were really good.
Story:
I think this is were I had a major problem with the show. First, it begins with one story arc and then it jumps into another one without having given a conclusion or resolution to the first one. In the end the first one is given a sort of vague resolution. The world that was being built in the very beginning lead us to believe something and then near the half of the series everything changed. It challenged certain views and morals only to throw them out of the window later on for the sake of a plot twist. I don't think it was bad but it was quite abrupt and it completely changed the theme of the story. In short the narrative didn't follow a clear pattern.
Sound:
I thought the first ending was really good and I really liked listening to it and there was also a track that I noticed and really made me excited so I would say there sound was very good.
Characters:
The characters were not developed enough in my opinion and there was a lot more room for their relationships to grow. Some things seemed abrupt again there were a lot of "love triangles" or something of that sort. Saki, the protagonist didn't have anything outstanding about her other than something that is mentioned later on. However that broke the rule of "show, don't tell" because I don't think it was depicted really well in the show that she had this sort of personality. Another of the main characters kind of seemed like a plot device to add into the angst rather than anything else which was a shame.
Overall it was a good series but I was quite disappointed as it showed interesting theme which were explored poorly.

I really enjoyed Loups-Garous but the story was extremely confusing and it had lots of gaps and that kind of annoyed me (so I got the book).
Story: The story is very intriguing and interesting but after some point things are just going too fast and a lot of information is merged into just one scene. Therefore many things don't make much sense and end up being very confusing.
Art: There wasn't anything exceptional about the art. I wonder if a more realistic art would have suited the script better but I really liked the character design.
Sound: I personally don't know much about sound but I thought
...
it was good. There wasn't anything very memorable about other than the ending though.
Character: I really liked the characters in this movie. I found them very quite interesting actually. They all had some unique characteristic about them even though their personality was rather stereotypical. The main character though, Hazuki was quite different. Many people might find her annoying but I actually sympathized with her, she was standoffish, confused and didn't do much in the progress of the movie but I though that she matured throughout the story. Moreover, I think that she is portrayed in a very realistic way as a girl living in that society, in those circumstances and having the problems that she has.
Enjoyment: I really enjoyed the movie but I believe that the creators failed to recreate the story in the book in an understandable way. However that could simply be because of the limited time of the movie. I think the story should have been split in two or even three movies.

From my point of view, the second movie of Mardock Scramble attempts to give more depth to the first movie as well as go into further details as far as the characters are concerned.
Story:
This story consists mainly of two parts, in my opinion, one part focuses on what happens after the battle Boiled, where Balot encounters herself at some type of scientific/medical experimentation center and the other part focuses on a mission that takes place in a casino.
I really enjoyed the story, it was intriguing and exciting, however, I believe that it is rather confusing as I still don't understand why Shell would want
...
to kill Balot and what those memories she found were or if she even found them, or why she doesn't talk about them. Also, it's hard to understand how the end up succeeding in their mission at the casino. Maybe this is normal though, as this is just the second movie. It was also more slow paced and calm in comparison to the first movie (excluding the fighting scenes which are gruesome). Furthermore, it had a mysterious aura, especially when the characters visit the casino.
Art:
The art was outstanding, just as in the first movie. The backgrounds are very inspiring and the characters interesting. I don't really understand why Balot has to be naked in so many scenes but I suppose it's fine. I also really liked how the casino was portrayed, so much so that I almost wished I was there because it was so luxurious.
Sound:
I found that the sound was fitting to the movie and I enjoyed the ending.
Character:
In this movie we are introduced to some more characters, most of them seem to be unrelated to the main plot though. I consider this to be positive as we get closer to the characters by getting to know their surroundings and not only focusing on the plot. We see what influences them, what they feel identify themselves with. There is also development in Balot's, Oeufcoque's
and Dr.Easter's relationship. Moreover, we meet another intelligent animal and a cyborg whom Balot interacts with. Finally there is the ruler spinner at the casino who is a very interesting character in my opinion, even though she doesn't play any important role.
Enjoyment:
To sum up, I really enjoyed the movie. I didn't get to feel any of those dramatic, heart aching moments but it inspired me a lot, wishing I could take a glimpse in that futuristic, mysterious world.

Story:
Asura tells the story of a boy who lives in Japan during a period of famine, around the 15th century. It’s a movie with many philosophical morals and strong character development. Why makes humans different from animals? Why do humans need love? Many questions about our existence are explained through an indirect way in this show.
In the beginning we are presented with a horrific situation where people go insane due to their hunger. I such circumstances a boy is born. Years pass and the boy doesn’t behave any different from a wild predator, literally. It isn’t until his meeting with a Buddhist monk
...
that he experiences feelings of kindness. The monk names him Asura and from that day his whole life changes. However, the one that plays the most important role is not the priest but a young woman who happens to interact with him. Asura will experience the warmness of belonging somewhere and the pain of being abandoned... but in the end will he choose the right way?
The story portrays intense feelings and disturbing themes as well as being very dramatic. In the end I believe it's worth watching though.
Art:
The art I saw in Asura is not something I come across often (but not rarely either). The landscapes were outstanding and the way they presented the scenes of famine were really impressive. The character design was not very realistic in most cases but it was still more realistic than in most anime. On the other side I found that the way Asura was depicted is related to his nature and was a way show it more intensely. I noted that in the end he did not have fangs as in the beginning of the story which I considered very symbolic.
Sound:
I don't remember anything exception from the soundtrack... I thought it was normal. I kind of took a liking to the ending song though.
Character:
There are many characters in the story such as Wakasa (the girl), a worker and the ruler of the area. Each one was represented a different type of person. The only character development was in Asura because the other characters didn't need any as it would have ruined the story. He represented the viewers in some way, who are confused about all the questions that arise in the story. We are invited to (partially) put ourselves in his shoes and wonder... On the other hand Wakasa represent the the right ideology but I believe the show makes sure we see her imperfections. Her father and the villagers represent people that are not very thoughtful of their actions and I think the fact that they are many is quite important... Moreover, the lord represents corruption and selfishness and as the story goes on we can see why he is so different form Asura in end. Finally, the monk seems like some type of holy person that is there to guide Asura to the correct path (the one we think is correct). We might resort to very intense action which if I had to analyze I would be a bit troubled but I think that's necessary to make the story flow.
Enjoyment:
The story while being set in a realistic environment is not very realistic itself, especially due to the fact that Asura has almost supernatural powers. In the end it doesn't matter though as it is a story of morals and that makes it more beautiful. In order to show us that, it must leave away the realism, be fast and intense and show us the message it wants to transmit.

Story:
At first when I was watching Ghost Hound I thought that the story would be mainly about Komori Taro's traumas but as I started watching more and more of it I realized that it was actually more about the adventures of the three boys. Specifically, there isn't a concrete issue that they deal with, there are a lot of problems and disturbing situations that this teenagers must experience. The show is mysterious until the end. There are a lot of things left unexplained, but maybe it is better for humans not to know certain things or at least I believe that this might be the
...
reason the creator didn't reveal (or even didn't think of) the truth behind the unseen world in which the characters travel constantly.
Art:
The art was nice. Every character had unique features, and the details shown in the town are also really beautiful. Finally, I should state that the spirit of the prehistoric animals were also quite interesting.
Sound:
In this series, some of the scenes didn't actually have background music, which made everything more realistic. Also the music generally was kind of traditional. Finally I really liked the opening and ending, especially the ending.
Character:
Every character in this series was unique, both in appearance and personality. There was deep character development even for some characters that were not really so important in the show. The main characters grow stronger as time passes by and that can be clearly seen at the end.
Enjoyment:
Finally I can say that this show made me really want to watch the next episode as soon as possible. It was really addicting, I wanted the mysteries to be solved and was curious to see what would happen next.

Stroy:
This show didn't really have any plot or story. It all revolves around a psychic teacher who causes various problems to the school and makes everything seem much more funny and adventurous than normal. On the other side I believe that it was really interesting some episodes seems to have a deeper meaning than what it seemed. However, this show is to be watched when someone feels like having a good time laughing a bit. Also, there were some episodes that dealt with the life
Art:
The art wasn't really interesting. I have actually seen similar types of art in anime that have just 5
...
minute episodes. However I must state that the art in the last episode looked so much different, though it wasn't the typical art you would see in a 2012 anime, but it was really nice, I like Reibai-sensei's character design.
Sound:
I don't really remember anything remarkable about the sound, except from the ending! It was really catchy.
Character:
There was actually some character development, the character personalities were intense and everyone seemed to have something like a label. Though I'm not really sure whether that is good or bad.
Enjoyment:
I can say that I did enjoy this series. The ending was completely unexpected and different in almost every way, it was more calm and deep compared to the comedy found in the other episodes.

Story:
In this anime the story is based on three different short traditional folklore stories from Japan. They are mostly horror stories, however I would say the the last two ones were dealt more with mythical phenomenons and were not so scary. Specifically, it is not as scary as Japanese horror movies are a days. However it is kind of psychological and revolves around issues that have some kind of melancholy into them. It is definitely a very good way to learn about Japanese literature while getting entertained.
Art:
The art is not manga art actually. It resembles ukiyo-e, which is a type of traditional Japanese
...
way of drawing. Nevertheless the last story has a different type of art and is a prequel to the anime Mononoke. The last stories art is more like manga art but it seems as if the surface in which it was drawn was some kind of wrinkled paper, I don't really know the reasons which the artists decided to make it seem that way but in my opinion it doesn't really look attractive that way, though the characters design was quite pretty.
Sound:
The sound was mostly Japanese traditional music which made the story more intense and interesting. On the other side I found the ending really nice, because it wasn't completely traditional music, it also seemed to have some elements of more modern music.
Character:
There wasn't any character development at all, but it seemed like at those times folklore legends/stories didn't really deal with character development (maybe there was some in the second story). Generally these types of stories concentrate more on the topic of revenge and hatred encountered in the plot.
The characters were kind of similar between them, I must state that all the stories deal with women that have been deeply hurt because of some man, in one way or another.
Enjoyment:
Finally I found this show really enjoyable because I learned new things about Japanese culture and their traditional stories while I experienced some of the Japanese classic horror aura which made me think about how it evolved to Japanese modern horror encountered in movies such as Ringu or Hanako-san.

Story:
The story was interesting and intriguing especially the first episodes. It's interesting to see how the relationships between the girls in Lillian develop and their bonds become stronger. Also their innocent and platonic relationships are interesting as well as mysterious or even confusing. The most interesting part was the main story which was about Yumi and Sachiko and their relationship. Actually the first season it mostly about how Yumi feels really insecure as Sachiko's petit soeur and about how Sachiko feels confused with Yumi's behavior. Generally, after the first part and some few other short stories, the series revolve around the event of St.Valentine's day.
...
It can get a bit more dramatic than what it actually would in most cases in real life, but that's what makes interesting, at least in my opinion, because I have always enjoyed drama.
Art:
The art was really elegant yet it followed the stereotypes of shoujo ai manga, the protagonist has big eyes, looks kind of childish on the contrary to the co-protagonist who is mature looking, tall and slightly cold. Other than that, since this anime so new, the background art is not really outstanding as we can see in most anime since 2010 or so.
Sound:
Well, what I liked mostly about the sound was the opening. I also have to mention the seiyuus, I think every voice suited the characters. The music is elegant and calm according to the atmosphere of the series.
Character:
The best part of the series, I believe, was the characters, especially Yumi and Sachiko, their personality is well developed. As I mentioned earlier, Yumi is a very insecure character, Sachiko is gets easily irritated and is kind of bossy. Her personalities are just so contradictory so lots of misunderstandings take place and both girls usually make them seem a lot worse than they actually are, which kind of proves how much they care about each other. It's their opposite personalities what causes so many problems in their "romantic friendship" however that fact is also what makes them like each other as they do, and they are really admirable.
Enjoyment:
I really enjoyed this show, it was really deep, it was sentimental and dramatic, it showed really intense feelings, so much that when thinking about them I could slightly understand how the characters felt.

Story:
The plot of this story may seem simple at first, but it's development is actually pretty interesting. Usually each episode focueses in one of the sisters (Chizuru or Mizuki) and how the deal with a supernatural creature they encounter (or supernatural event). The story was more funny and childish when Mizuki was the protagonist of the episode and more dramatic and serious when the protagonist was Chizuru. Personally, I found Chizuru's episodes more deep because they transmited her feelings of anxiousness, confusing and most importantly loneliness because of being able to see ghosts. Moreover the story is education as it shows elements about Japanese Literature
...
(the supernatural events). Finally, the bond between the two sisters is shown continously during the show, how they help each other and how they compliment each other. It might be a supernatural anime but the feelings and thoughts in it are realistic and touching.
Art:
The character's design was simple, yet original in my point of view. The background and attire clearly showed how Japanese people in villages live like.
Sound:
The sound reminded me a bit of traditional Japanese music, it was deep especially at the end of the episodes when they playes the instrumental version of the opening. Though it is kind of susbjective whether one finds it likeable or not.
Character:
The two sisters are clearly the opposite of each other, but as I said before they compliment each other exactly due to that reason. Chizuru is kind of pesimistic, quiet and slighly introverted while Mizuki is energetic, extroverted and impulsive. The rest of the characters don't play an important role in the story but in some of the episodes which are focused on them we can see what kind of people they are. It's actually not the typical anime with some school girls making jokes and having fun.
Enjoyment:
I enjoyed this anime because I found it interesting, I wanted to see what creature would appear in the next episode, if it would be good or evil and how the sisters would deal with it. I believe this series are worth watching if someone is interested in Japanese literature or supernatural events.
