I don't normally write reviews, but since this show is pretty polarizing, it's kinda interesting, so I wanna put my thoughts into it. Note that this review will be spoiler free.
Masamune no Revenge is definitely a twist unto the original romance genre, and a very good one at that. Typically romance comedy anime have really cliche plot and characters. Masamune no Revenge has exactly the opposite, it has really interesting (though unrealistic) characters and the relationships that occur between them really drove me to the next episode.
Story: 8
A really unique story, it's not often you have a plot where on the surface, one person is
...
head over heels for another person, while in their secrets, it's the other way around. It's actually surprising how much the plot progresses for a slice of life anime, but it really did feel like the plot was going somewhere, instead of spinning around in circles. Which is the reason why it's not your run in a mill romcom anime.
Art: 7
Nothing spectacular, but nothing to laugh about either. Although the overall animations were lacking, the character designs (except for Masamune) were unique and really showed their characters. Solid
Sound: 7
Nothing really stands out as the "WOW OPENING OF THE YEAR DESU". But, the music does fit with the anime, so there's nothing to complain about. The opening, however, to me is pretty good.
Characters: 8
Oh my, character development in a slice of life anime? Nani????!?!?! Yes, this show actually fleshes out its main characters, while not forgetting to develop it's side characters as well. The unique character interactions is really fun to watch, because they are not cardboard cutouts, you really can't predict what they are gonna do, like you can in most of these genres. Another thing, is Master one of the most unique character you have ever seen? lol.
Overall: 8
There's no reason not to try this anime, it's funny, different, interesting, and just overall a pretty relaxing anime to watch.

This is a spoiler free Review
I am...confused. I watched through the first season just to get to the "Oh so fabulous and wonderful" Second season. 8 episodes in, and I keep repeated finding myself asking the questions: Why? Why is she crying? Why is she so mad? Why is HE crying? What is going on? Who is this person? What does that even mean? What the fuck did he even do to trigger her?
I ask these questions to myself about 5 times in each episode. I just don't understand how what they say to each other makes sense, sometimes I even pause the anime trying
...
to interpret what they say, but after doing that a couple of times, I stopped and I know that Animes like these shouldn't be interpreted.
Yes, many of my friends who enjoyed this anime tells me, don't question the motives or the plot, just watch it and let the drama come to me. How the hell am I supposed to enjoy the drama when I spend half the episode wondering what the fuck happened in the last episode for this episode to make this less sense. This anime needs to be interpreted to be fully enjoyed, however, there isn't enough dialogue to fully let the audience know what the fuck is going on. It might be because I watched it in subbed, but I haven't had a problem with Kissanime's subs that much.
This anime is very like 5 Centimeters per Second, where the plot makes sense and the audience knows where you're trying to go with the plot. But there not enough dialogue for the audience, and they are left confused rather than seeing the motives behind what the characters feel and say.
Specifics:
Story: Is a 5, it very normal and somewhat boring, just reading the synopsis makes me not want to watch this anime.
Art: It is very solid, it is an 8 because I feel like there surprising a lot of beautiful animation clips in an anime that doesn't really have any actions.
Sound: Is an 8, makes a story a little better, but I tend to like music from all animes, so it might be a little biased.
Characters: If there is any reason to watch this show, it is simply to watch the complexity and general emotions that the characters feel. The main protagonist is what I would call a four-dimensional character, not only does he have a motive, which makes a character three dimensional, but he actually tells you a motive but hides the real motive away from everyone, including the audience, including even himself. Almost every character, from the sensei to Kaori to Komachi, they are all multi-dimensional. 10/10
Enjoyment: 5, maybe even lower, I was just triggered half the time I was watching.
Overall: 6/10 I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone, but hey if you like to interpret and analyze classic Japanese visual Literature, be my guest.
