THIS REVIEW WILL BE SPOILER FREE
Outstanding anime, this is my absolute favorite of this year along with Made in Abyss.
Story :
The premise of the story makes it sound like something you wouldn't expect at all after you're done watching this. It's really misleading, making people think this would be another "cute" anime centered around girly characters. Oh it's everything I just described and so much more.
It starts slowly, developing the main character takes a good chunk of episodes and initially I felt unsure as to why were we supposed to get attached to her. You understand why very soon.
...
Throughout the story it did a job of explaining the nature of this setting and how it comes to be, though be wary of cliffhangers, they're an absolute killer. It does a good job of making the world immersive raising questions after an episode. Even after this first season, one of the entities remains a mystery to the viewers that aren't familiar to the manga, and in a very good way.
Art :
Wow! It's CGI, expect way better than we've seen before. I loved every minute of it, and there are some outstanding shots in the anime that do the manga a lot of justice. The cinematography is outstanding, especially in one particular episode (you'll know which soon), they've outdone themselves and whoever tried CGI before. Good job to studio Orange.
Sound :
Ahhh, loved the OP. It's very calming, a soothing voice. The ED is just as good, do listen to the full version of those on Youtube, really nice.
The voice acting is very good, especially the main character and the best girl of the show, loved them. Battle sounds, overall scenery and the music is done really well and it blends in with the scenes.
Character :
It has a very nice cast of different characters, each with their own virtues, humor and troubles. Not all of them are well developed in this first season, time constraints in mind, but those that do get a lot of screen time are very enjoyable, and funny.
Overall :
This was a great experience, and I intentionally left the character section somewhat empty as I would love for you to go in without any spoilers in this show, it's outstanding. I loved every moment of it and will be jealous of you for having the pleasure of watching it for the first time.

THIS REVIEW WILL BE SPOILER FREE
Story :
The story of this anime is a simple one. Two people of a different nature obtain God-like powers - healing, bullet immunity, flying and so forth. What are they going to do with those powers shapes the story. It's generally a breath of fresh air in a time where a good chunk tend to be quite similar and tedious to watch.
The pacing of the story is good, I felt quite thrilled the day the anime was out - this doesn't happen very often - and the episodes were generally well thought out.
It has some surprisingly good comedic scenes
...
and dramatic ones which make the anime enjoyable and help to break the pace from time to time.
The involvement of a public political figure in the anime was quite questionable, I cannot seem to understand why that was there, it was by no means funny. Do get me back on that, I'm quite interested to know the reason for it if you've finished watching it.
Art :
Artstyle was good, at times a bit too clunky, especially when the characters were showing dismay, or crying. I suppose it is realistic enough to fit in well with the times, though of course there are anime studios that have done better in this regard.
There is one scene in particular where the explosions are quite terrible. I'm not sure what happened there, but it felt disjointed from the rest of the anime, almost as if it was rushed.
Sound :
Outstanding OP, a favorite of mine this year along with Land of the Lustrous and Dragon Ball. I wouldn't recommend watching the YouTube clip of it - it's very...silly.
ED was good too, though I believe this series will be remembered mostly for the OP.
Voice acting was good, I didn't feel they lacked in that department, especially with the shooting, oh god that thing, highlight of the meme year, you'll see for yourself.
Character :
The main character is the high point of the series - outstanding man. One of the few characters we can relate to because of his actions, the ways he deals with a problem at hand. He's a believable hero, which is rare these days. A good job on that.
The antagonist was very underwhelming. Very little sense in what he does, no background to explain that sort of thinking. In fact, due to his hobbies (this is spoiler free after all) you would expect the absolute opposite. If this was meant as a shock effect on human nature, it was not done right. I hope you'll like him better than I did.
The other characters are generally well done and realistic enough to fit well with the story and support the main character. The support character of the antagonist however, is disappointing. I understand the need to give the antagonist some closure before and after certain events, but this felt forced and her reasoning is out of the water.
Conclusion :
Despite all that, I think this was one of the good animes of this season and I would recommend it to everyone as it was a good experience, hilarious at times.

THIS REVIEW IS SPOILER-FREE
Story :
The first movie, much like the rest of the trilogy is set on Japan, centered around a high-school student, providing a backstory to the ever-so-popular Gatari series main character Araragi.
The opening of the movie is a flashforward scene, raising questions for the viewers about what is going on. This is made to pique interest very early on and generally helps to follow a very good pace throughout the storytelling.
This is definitely an area that could be done better in this movie. Between the flashforward and the rest of the story - I felt there was a missing scene, disconnection these
...
two and providing no sense to what happened in the opening. This is quite disappointing for a movie, seeing as being the first one it definitely should've taken care of viewers not feeling connected to the story after finishing it.
Besides that, the story itself is nothing complex, definitely not original to what it's trying to say. It's been done before, exhausted even. It was predictable in some scenes, however this doesn't make the set-up for the trilogy less interesting. The cliffhanger at the end took care of that. It was satisfying in a sense that things finally seemed to be getting interesting, and disappointing because that came too late in the movie.
Art :
The artstyle feels like the CryEngine of gaming. It's very good, definitely close to a realistic view, as animated movies should be. It is something that this studio has done a few times in the past as well from what we've seen.
That said, sometimes it doesn't fit in quite well with the rest of the scenes, especially in the comical ones, or the expressions of the main character. I felt that broke the immersion and could definitely been done better.
Sound :
I watched the movie subbed in English, not being very familiar with the voice actors, as I'm quite new to anime, I cannot recognize any of them. However I felt that generally the voice acting was very good.
With that said, it wasn't anything memorable, and didn't provide any atmosphere to keep the viewers in. In a way, I think the quiet was deliberate on the producer's part.
Character :
I felt this was the lowest point. The world of Gatari is vastly underwhelming when it comes to the number of characters that we see in the movie. It does help and give a sense of scale to see people running or walking about while the important characters have a conversation. There are *very* few characters throughout the movie to a point that the world feels desolate. Even the cars driving in the background could be automated since it doesn't appear that there's a person in the driving wheel for all we can see.
The main character makes a questionable and arguably terrible decision with the first and only problem he's presented in the movie. He faces a problem, is stuck with this problem and despite being a loner, one should always try to seek outside help or at the very least, as we've seen in anime for years, contemplation of the issue is mandatory to find the next course of action.
None of the other characters are memorable, and one of them is certainly used as a plot device twice in the story, the audience still confused as to who he might be and why should he be involved in this.
Enjoyment and final thoughts :
I felt this was just a decent animated movie and perhaps just enough to be called average seeing as it's the first one in a trilogy. Perhaps all the questions and questionable decisions will make sense in the second or final movie?
