Both shows have a great amount of character development. Even the side characters get their own time to shine. Also, there are no overly unrealistic elements in both shows (no super powers). It's just about normal high school students (some with born talent like Chihaya and Hinata) working hard to achieve their goals.

Aside from both shows being a reverse harem with a historical setting, the main leads are quite similar. They are both very strong willed, never running away from problems, and they have a clear goal in which they're set on achieving. Both leads also have a protector who they knew since childhood, and that protector is willing to do anything to keep the main leads safe.

In both shows, androids exist for similar purposes: to help their owners with cleaning, shopping, etc. However, the human characters and the androids have interactions that goes far beyond that of simple owners and robots. Some androids have human-like qualities that blurs the line between humans and androids which is something eminent in both shows.

In Chobits, the main male character finds a persocom that has been thrown away. Similarly in Kowarekake no Orgel, there is a male character who finds an android that looks like a human. The persocom and the android are child-like so the male characters watch over them with care.
