This movie was not awful, but it was a bit underwhelming. The plot especially felt a bit mediocre when compared to the mainline series. The animation was not as good as I expected, anime movies usually have improved animation but this movie's animation was about on par with the anime. It introduced two new characters who were the focal point of the movie, but I found their motivations and roles to be boring and very cliche. I think it would have been better if the movie focused on Rimuru and friends dealing with an issue that directly affected them, and had them be the main ... focus. Also, there were no stakes. Rimuru and the others completely decimated the enemy. I know Rimuru has done that before in the anime many times, but when it's a movie you would expect epic battles, right? None of the fights were interesting. In summary, this movie could have been a lot better and did not capitalize on what I think makes the anime series good at all. It feels like they didn't put in much effort. It still manages to be passable though, I'm sure many fans of the series would still enjoy it. I can't really recommend the movie ion good faith though, you don't have to see this.
