Enjoyed the GP review! Personally the stuff about Makoto getting roped back into the con life just came across as a recurring joke, and I was mostly OK with that, aside from the child trafficking subplot which took things a tad too far. As for morality, IMO having the characters toss it by the wayside kind of works in the show's favor. Sure, it'd be an interesting creative limitation if the script took the gang's actions more seriously and held them accountable, but them understanding their scummy-ness and playing to that strength is a large part of why we buy into their cons in the first place. I don't think the show intended to have a proper discussion on ethics, but as you said it's gearing for more popcorn-style entertainment. Which is still handled masterfully here, it's a really strong homage to the heist genre and Western storytelling.
