Your enjoyment of this anime will depend on how far you are willing to suspend your own disbelief. As someone who would gladly escape the real world for anime, I thoroughly engaged with [i]C[/i]'s fictional economics. Now, if only real life were as simple as blowing up your rival entrepreneurs with giant laser beams.

Let me start with the fight scenes. They are sometimes too short, but always feature fluid and detailed animation. You will get your freaking laser beams of death. There is no difference. There is only... a DVD!

The Baccano! specials should be considered part of the original anime. Seemingly, the only reason why these three episodes were moved onto DVD is because anime episodes always come in multiples of 13.

Actually, my first sentence is a lie. There is a difference... the plot has been mostly explicated in full, so the viewer can now follow the jumbled story-telling style of Baccano!. Whereas with the first episodes, viewers are likely to get confused by the ruckus of unknown events and unknown characters. Now, everything is clear.

The only other mafia anime I can think of is Reborn, but I think most will agree Reborn doesn't bring the brutal noir setting traditionally associated with the mafia. Needless to say, the sequential ordering of events in Baccano will confuse many viewers. The focus constantly jumps from one time period to another, chaining together seemingly unrelated events.

New and unexpected experiences should be welcomed. Yet, the reason why most anime choose to progress linearly is so the story is clear to the viewers. Unfortunately, Baccano is unclear. I scratched my head until the second half of the season, when the jigsaw pieces finally ...
