I started this series expecting it to be a conquest. I wanted to be able to say that I had watched this ridiculously long anime. Little did I know that this show would change my life. What starts off as a fun and goofy adventure with a weird-looking art style-- yet dripping in 90s and early 2000s nostalgia-- quickly becomes one of the most heartfelt and cleverly written narratives that I had the pleasure of experiencing over the course of many years. Overall, one of the better one piece movies. The villains were a little bit annoying, but the world-building was the best I've seen so far of the one piece movies, but what made this one stand out to me was the AESTHETIC. The OUTFITS were so cool. They finally decided to give the straw hat crew GUNS and it was BADASS. The best part of this movie was the opening music and character introduction at the beginning of the movie. The music DID NOT need to go that hard. What made me decide to watch this movie was a review somewhere that said that they couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't whilst watching. It felt like a spoiler going into the movie; the fact that I would be paying attention to distinguishing reality versus hallucination would likely give me an edge over viewers that weren't focusing on that.
