A follow-up to the significantly better OVA from the 80s, Great Dangaioh is the definition of a bland, vanilla mecha show.
The character designs are flat and nearly indistinguishable from each other. The mecha designs, with a few exceptions, are truly yawn-worthy as well. The animation is the lowest of low budget.
The story meanders about, never really coalescing into anything noteworthy. A hinted at love triangle never develops, hints at a tie to the original OVA are teased but ultimately not all that meaningful, and the ending is just a giant mess that makes very little sense.
