My scores are not critical in any way. They are entirely subjective, based solely on my own enjoyment of a series. I am aware that I consistently award high scores to series with many narrative flaws. This is because flaws are irrelevant to me unless they severely and negatively affect my enjoyment of a series.
I almost never drop a series nor rate a series below a 6; I generally enjoy most media I consume, so even the most dumb and boring series can be "fine" entertainment for me if I am in the mood for wasting away my time. And if I absolutely know I will not enjoy a series, I will not watch it in the first place, so there is usually no reason I would give out scores of 5 and below.
My general rating structure:
(10) Masterpiece: Shows that I found emotionally powerful, meaningful, and beautiful. These shows are special to me, and I could call them all my favorites.
(9) Great: Shows that were powerful and meaningful enough to emotionally touch me in some way, but not quite at the level of a 10. These are great stories and still special to some degree.
(8) Very Good: Shows that were highly enjoyable but not unique, inspired, or special, and had no major emotional impact. Typically utilizes common tropes I've seen a million times before, but I still had fun watching.
(7) Good: Shows that were enjoyable but I felt were held back by some aspect. This could be due to some deficiency in writing quality that had a negative impact on me, or it could simply be because I didn't like a character's actions in a particular scene.
(6) Fine: Shows that were okay to watch when I had nothing else to do. Good at wasting away my precious, precious time. Nonsensical plot, plot going nowhere, bad characterization, or simply a failure to relate to the story are all major negative impacts at this rating.
(4) Bad: Shows that legitimately angered me in some way due to extremely poor quality. I almost never give this rating.
Endings have a very large impact on my ratings. I hate pointless, dumb, and cheap endings that only serve to try to get a cheap emotional rise out of the audience, and such endings can knock my rating down a point or two if they're particularly egregious. I also usually lower my rating if I feel conflicted - if I feel that a show has been a 9 up to a certain point, but then something happens that I really dislike, I'll give it an 8.
