This truly felt like the end of Nishikata and Takagi's journey and childhood. We watched them grow up and mature over the years. The growth that their relationship and chemistry has had was beautiful to watch. Shifting over the course of the series from Nishikata believing that Takagi only teased him for fun, to him beginning to realize that she had feelings for him. willing to outright let him know how she felt towards him. I was taken a back by Takagi's tears as throughout the show I always found Takagi to be the more mature stoic and cunning protagonist, not to say that she did not have emotional scenes but this one felt different and was very well done. I have a feeling that the confession that many fans had been wanting may not satisfy everyone as some may have wanted a straight forward confession including myself but I think that what happened got the message through with "I will make you happy Takagi-san", "Definingly. Always." and "I'll make you happy too Nishikata!" Although this may be the end of the series which was a surreal realization, my biggest takeaway from the film was to enjoy things while they are here. Instead of being sad that a beautiful thing is over be appreciative of the happy and great moments. Such a simple concept as teasing and games were perfected over the course of these 5 years and I would not have it other way!
