I first watched Samurai Champloo on Adult Swim back when they were first airing it. Everyone was watching it back then. I eagerly waited each week for Saturday's new episode. When the ending of episode 25 came up, Jin fell into the water after his encounter with the assassin. My response was "No Fucking Way". Well, the next week we all saw him kill the assassin. What a relief that was. Jin is still one of my most liked male characters in all of anime. Quiet and self-assured, he was one of the best samurai in existence during that period, fictionally speaking of course. I just could not see him loosing to that Shogunate assassin. The only opponent he could not kill was Mugen, mainly because of his unorthodox style. A real good story and one I have re-watched several times since those Adult Swim days.
Nice Samurai Champloo review. I think the main focus of this series, the search for the samurai that smells of sunflowers, is introduced much earlier than you indicate. Fuu asks Mugen and Jin to help her very soon after she saves them from the fire at her place of work. This series is really Cowboy Bebop done with swords, LOL, and was done by the same group. I loved the baseball episode....that was bizarre to say the least!!! LOL
