Synopsis

Fuuko is a happy and cheerful girl. One day, two cousins, Daiya and Ichi, move into the apartment upstairs. Cold Ichi and mischievous Daiya gave a very bad first impression. All three are going to the same school as well. How will Fuuko's high school life turn out?

Parfait Tic begins with the promise of a love triangle between a seemingly ordinary girl and two good-looking boys who are cousins. The fact that they live in neighboring apartments helps the three of them build relationships with each other and keep involved in each other's lives, though maybe a little bit too involved. Nevertheless, the mangaka playfully details the life of a girl caught in the throes of new love well enough to keep the reader engaged for the entire time.

After reading the synopsis, I sighed and thought to myself, "Ugh, here's another predictable love triangle that will be dragged out for way too ... long." On the contrary, however, Parfait Tic proved me quite wrong. Sure, a love triangle involving one nice playboy dude and a grumpy cold one could be predictable at first, but the mangaka uses the length of the manga to keep the reader unsure about who Fuuko-chan will end up with in the end. This is probably the best love triangle in a shoujo that I've ever encountered.

I was pleasantly pleased to find myself laughing multiple times while I read this manga because Fuuko-chan was a funny person and always seemed to get herself into something hilarious. Some of the newer manga try to make something funny and don't succeed, but Parfait Tic retains the charming humor it had since its publication.

Also, what seems like a tame setting is really very comfortable to read. If you like slice of life, Parfait Tic can really capture it all due to the characters living in the same apartment complex. It's really fun to see the boys managing life on their own, Fuuko tackling the difficulty of school, them worrying about their futures, and just seeing them all handle the feelings that they have in new experiences.

The characters don't seem to shine very much at first, but through the course of the story, their personalities round out and they become quite realistic, shaped by the hardships they have to face.

Fuuko-chan is a brown-haired girl who is known among her friends as a cheerful girl who smiles a lot, even when she's in pain. She can be silly when she's embarrassed and funny without even trying, and she loves to play with the kids around her apartment. Fuuko likes to arrange her hair in different ways every day, so it's interesting to see her in each new chapter. She isn't the prettiest girl in the school, but she's honest and good at heart. Falling in love changes her for the better.

The two boys who move in have contrasting personalities and appearances: Daiya is outgoing, flirty, and carefree with spiky dark hair, while his cousin Ichi is taller, brown-haired, stoic, and studious. Daiya is friendly with Fuuko as he is with all girls, while Ichi almost looks at her with disdain at first. The both of them turn out a lot different from their stay at the apartment and interactions with Fuuko, though.

I wasn't so excited about the artwork. It was from many years ago and I prefer the style of newer shoujo. However, I did notice an improvement in between chapters from older to newer, or perhaps it was just the characters maturing. The mangaka tends to emphasize lips, and noses are a little larger than I'm used to, but otherwise the art is fine.

While I'm not too satisfied with the ending of Parfait Tic, that's solely based on the ship on which I sailed. It's one of the greatest shoujo manga I've read in a while. I laughed a bunch at the situations Fuuko-chan found herself in and even identified with her on some of her feelings. A shoujo manga that can induce those emotions in me deserves to be read by a bunch of people.

This is really one of my favourites. You should know that I don't really read many mangas. I often start some and soon lose interest in them. But with this one it was different. I couldn't stop reading and it drove me crazy to have to wait months, yea even years to finally read the ending today. It's hard not to spoiler on this one, but I'll try.
The characters are awesome, they could be real. All of the story could be real. That's probably the reason I like that manga so much.
The one thing bugging me a little is that the protagonist couldn't decide ...

Mixed Feelings

I enjoyed this manga, but at the same time it was super annoying. A thing I can't stand about the protagonist is that she can't decide which guy she wants to be with. I understand that it's possible to fall in love and have feelings for two people at the same time, however my issue with Fuuko is that she keeps dwelling on it throughout the entire manga. She just can't seem to make up her mind until the final chapter, hurting not only herslef but everyone around her and to be quite honest, it's really tiresome to keep at it for a 150 chapters. ...
