Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Kei Miyama comes from a family with strange abilities. Birds flock to his grandfather as if he is the wind that carries them in the air itself. Kei, on the other hand, can talk to cars and prefers their company to humans—especially women. After moving to Iceland, Kei makes a living there as a freelance detective.

Whether it be resolving lovers' quarrels, locating missing people, or recovering lost items, Kei hops from case to case, traveling alone on the empty roads that span the rugged Icelandic landscape. But the secrets of the land of ice and fire are not the only mysteries ahead that Kei must unravel: an encounter with an aloof Icelandic beauty makes him recall local superstitions of ghosts that roam the wild lands at night.

Another banger by Irie Aki, if you read "Ran and Her Grey World" then you must've been accustomed with this author beautiful style and great world building.

This work is definitely enjoyable for a person who love "realistic" style of illustration, the details of the setting and atmosphere is very beautiful even to the minute detail.

The pacing may be quite slow but it's supposed to be slow, when you read this manga you're transported to the world itself and feels like a character inside the work itself. The overall character has a lot of personality, the mystery is very enticing and heck, even the bonus chapters ...

This manga reads like a live-action drama-adventure-mystery show. I feel like I’m in Iceland reading it and love the atmospheric nature of it with the little tidbits of Icelandic “lore” (language, culture, history, and geography) and how the characters travel between different popular tourism spots throughout the story. I learned a lot and it has gotten me a lot more interested in visiting the island country. It really does feel like lived experience from the author, who mentions in the author note of the first volume that she went there before writing the manga. This manga easily could've been a 10/10 for me, the gorgeous scenery, the lovable whimsical characters, the quaint nature of it all. But it just has this persistent issue of meandering and unfocused writing, it flip-flops between the mc taking up odd-jobs and living his life in Iceland, and this murder mystery with his little brother. Now it's a half-baked combination of both. The mystery does not even have the majority of the focus, but because it's presented like the central conflict, it demands all attention and detracts from the other stuff she seems to enjoy drawing and writing more.
