Something About Us. or "Our Relationship Is" or "Woori". A highly rated Manhwa on this website with not that many readers. For me, I discovered this Manhwa when I was just searching for Romance series (I was on a binge. I'm still on that binge. Kare Kano is treating me well). At first I didn't notice the very low amount of users and I didn't notice the complete lack of reviews either. I thought it was a manhwa viewed as the top of it's genre, easy to find and just great. Little did I know there wasn't even 2000 people who've acknowledged it on
MAL. But I picked it up and couldn't stop reading. It was amazing. It was everything I ever wanted from a romance Manga. It had drama, but not bitchy drama. It had some mature characters and some immature ones. It had realistic behaviors I could see myself doing too. And most of all, it was cute as FUCK.
You can tell as soon as the Manhwa starts that Woojin and Gayoung were going to end up together. This ends up being relatively problematic for a lot of romance manga. See: Taiyou no Ie, which was also amazing but not perfect like this. Thankfully however, the Manwhaga manages to spin this out of your trajectory relatively quickly with relationships between the two being very much realistic. People are cut off, and when somebody doesn't want to talk to somebody, they don't talk to somebody. Relationships are shattered and put back together and there's even that one neutral that's there through it all.
What I also love about this strip is that it's not afraid to put its MCs in relationships aside from the main ship and that helps with character development and the relations between the characters aside from the main two as well.
This webtoon was extremely good and I would have given it 10 out of 10 except I hated the ending. I feel like it was rushed and it didn't give a satisfactory conclusion for me. I thought that there was even a chapter missing.
However, overall it was a great story, art style and I really enjoyed it. The other thing that made this enjoyable and, personally, gave me a breath of fresh air is that they are in a college setting. The side characters could have also been developed a little bit more and it would have been great.
Love is a winding tunnel and while some may race off to see what view is awaiting you at the end, often people tend to forget the tenderness of the journey and just who set them off.
Something About Us is probably the best romance manhwa, or manga in general, that you haven't read yet. It is able to skillfully envelop the reader in this ride and basically forces them to look at every step they take and reminisces on the beauty, not just by the art but admittedly that is a major upside for this story.
The comfiness in watching the relationship between Woojin and
Gayoung morph and change as they grow up is almost more than I can bear. Whenever I look at this manhwa, I am instantly filled with the pleasure of feeling like I am reading it for the first time, despite knowing what is to come, because I love looking at Woojin and Gayoung get together just that much. But that does not mean that this story is without fault, some events that happen really make the reader wonder why they needed to happen, and feel as if they were just added increase the length of the story since the result from them is the same as the beginning.
The stylization of this manhwa only helps to propel this feeling as the drawings are probably one of the closest things to visual sex. Despite in some parts being a little bit under detailed, nevertheless the art is probably some of the best available.
In this kind of story, a romance, the characters need to be likable and that is something that Something About Us excels at. Not only Woojin and Gayoung, but almost every character is memorable to me to look back on and I can definitely say that I liked almost every character, save a few. Although I think some of these certain characters, who I will not be mentioning for spoilers sake, are meant to be disliked, some of the stupidity that relates to the characters is a little aggravating.
Overall, this manhwa was able to enrapture me for the time that I read it and still drags me backs into its warm, soft, claws every now and then for a reread. Absolutely I would recommend this to everyone and I hope they can find the same enjoyment out of this that I did.
Something About Us reminds me of another webtoon called Que Sera Sera about childhood friends falling in love with each other. The webtoon itself, is a wonderful read that drives into the deepest part of our souls. I dropped this webtoon a few years ago thinking it was boring, but i'm glad I picked it back up again and read through it all.
Story | 07
The story was beautifully written, but I felt certain chapters were a bit rushed. A typical "boys and girls can never truly be best friends without one falling for another". Being friend-zoned, heartbroken, dumped, and all
of the consecutive terms that follow after; I really enjoyed the story. At one point, everyone goes through their first failed love attempt, fighting, broken objects, tears, so we could really empathize with the plot. Yoojin and Minwoo's relationship reminds me of my boyfriend's and I when we were really immature and fought all that time, but that's not really the point of this review right? :)
Art | 09
The art isn't anything to fancy or has vibrant color that make our eyes hurt at night. It's simple and plain, which is the best because bright colors can make our eyes go bad *^* There aren't any extreme detailing on character design nor background which is a plus plus for me because I feel like the "extra" that artists draw, sometimes have no purpose to the story.
Character | 08
I felt like Woojin's character wasn't really developed enough. You also don't get too much information on the other characters besides the main characters and the important side characters. I would've liked it more if the artist gave back stories to every character, but that could also be put into side stories too? C:
Enjoyment | 10
I have to rate enjoyment a 10 because it really kept me on the edge of my bed. The webtoon gets better around the 50th chapter when the story really starts to pull us in. Seeing the main character try so hard to escape the friend-zone [Which is possible guys!] and actually succeeding was the best part of the story!
Overall, 100 chapters really go through a breeze when it comes to online comics. This and Que Sera Sera are a definite read!
