The Main Reason I Dropped This:

The main character doesn't treat anyone as real. She doesn't have a single genuine interaction with anyone; ever. This is fine and even entertaining at times -- except that she buys a deeply traumatized slave, whom she treats as a rabid pet and manipulates while exerting her influence as a duke's daughter. No matter how powerless she is compared to the people in her household, it's blatantly clear that she has ALL the power in their relationship. It's unbearable, UNBEARABLE to watch. She forgets about him, neglects him and keeps him wearing a collar that is connected to the ... ring she wears -- which she could use ANY TIME to immobilize him/even kill him. And he's shown to be enjoying the fake affection she bestows on him. This dynamic just keeps *going on*. I don't care if he's one of the male leads in the 'hard mode' that often leads to death and if she doesn't have the power to OFFICIALLY elevate him from slave status -- her nonchalance when it comes to slavery and the power she willingly wields over him are extremely repulsive and are what ultimately turned me off this title.


Other Issues:

The main character's portrayal is extremely uneven and subordinate to whatever the plot needs her to be. She's smart at times, yet also dumb as rocks and oblivious, considering the amount of failures she goes through before the story starts and how confused she professes to be when it comes to her LI's reactions.

Most of the bullying and drama feels extremely over the top and contrived. It's caricaturesque and a cheap manipulative tactic to make the reader empathize with the heroine, who is victimized to an inch of her life. Being a victim, her *own* problematic behaviors are all glanced past and forgiven. Her character's violence and awful temper in the past are but a result of other people's abuse thus we should commiserate with her, and there's always a convenient reason or understandable excuse. This is fine once or twice and there's even a genuinely powerful moment between her and one of the brothers where they finally shout their own grievances at each other -- but even then it felt one-sided. Ironically (yet not as it's so common) for what's a narrative about a misunderstood villain with hidden depths, the story's actual villains are not granted a similar courtesy.


In short -- while it was decent for a time, my grievances just kept piling up.

"Villians Are Destined to Die" or "Death is the only ending for the villainess" is a very well-written Otome isekai manhwa. Based on the novel, it's very accurate and sticks to the original story magnificently.

STORY | 10 | The plot in this is pretty great. Easy to follow, with plenty of cliche moments that don't really bother me as a reader. Compared to other manhwa I've read, it's unique. It's very painful and heartwrenching, with many moments that push me to keep reading. Overall, my favorite thing about this plot though is the game aspect. It's interesting as hell watching Penelope's decisions, and the turns ... it takes.

ART | 10 | I'm no artist, but this is stunning. It's colored beautifully and has great pannels. I also really enjoy the unique style, it's memorable.

Character | 9 | I really like Penelope as an MC. She's relatable, intelligent, and very self-aware. The only thing I dislike is some of the other characters. I feel that they can be developed a little more? The good thing though is as a reader I have the ability to hate her brothers just as much as her LOL.

Enjoyment | 9 | I enjoy it a-lot, clearly. The only thing though, is some chapters are skippable or sometimes a little boring.

Overall I'd give it a 9.5/10 !

EDIT: I've now finished the novel, and I will say. I hope it does not follow with the later chapters.

One of the best villainess manhwas out there! Penelope is one of those smart protagonists thats actually somewhat evil like a true villainess.

The whole favorability adds so much more to the story! It makes it so exciting because we get to see what each character like or dislike to increase or decrease their favorability. This way, we know the characters tastes and their personalities better.

The story is pretty true to the novel and the manhwa does a good job executing scenes.

The art is beautiful and every character is just so good-looking. Her development with each character is so natural especially her interactions ... with the ML (the CP) who devotes his heart and soul to her. Truly love all the characters even the antagonists.
