Personally it is one of my favorite series ever. It has pretty much every component I would look for in a masterpiece: the mystery to draw you in; the suspense to keep you on edge; the drama to get you excited; and the tragedy to ingrain itself in your mind forever. Were this manga more well-known by the international community, I believe it would be a default in any "Top manga's that make you cry in the end" thread out there.
If you have read Saburou Nagai, you may see that themewise, this manga differs vastly from the rest of her works. Although it has same-sex

love vibes to some degree (like what Nagai-sensei would typically write), I think this manga is not totally Yuri/GL like some sites suggest. To be fair I would say it is a "mystery with borderline Yuri/GL scenes". Despite being thematically different from the author's usual trope, this manga still perfectly epitomizes her. Nagai-sensei's charms are never lost. Her signature artstyle screams in every page. Characters' states of mind are wonderfully depicted just like in every of her works. It is the hilarious illustrations masking the darker story underneath that make this manga such a joy to read. The plot is neatly laid out, the details are nicely collected, and there is almost no redundancy that may breach Chekhov's Gun.
All in all, I think Senkou Girl is Nagai Saburou at her best.
