The summary of Baby Pop really caught my eye. It sounded a bit weird and I was curious to read the manga. There were 11 chapters of comedy, angst, friendships and family relationships, and a tad of romance. It sounds ridiculous, but it's better than what you think!
Story: (8)
The story is pretty ordinary. There's nothing that special about it except for the nice feel of a natural life. This was something more of a slice of life of two people who are living together that lost someone precious: One his wife and the other her mother. The rest of the story pretty much just follows
...
their new life and their routines. Very normal and made me feel at ease while reading the manga for some reason.
Art: (7)
The art was one of the low point of the series... It looked really sketchy and odd in most panels, but there were a few panels in which the manga really kicked up the quality and show that she really can draw beautifully. Every character design was pretty unique, at least for the important characters. A few people who only appear once in a panel looked extremely similar to another person in a different arc. But that really doesn't bother me, at least. You'll eventually get used to the art, but I won't say you'll stare at it in awe because it's rather mediocre.
Character: (9)
This was the best part of the series, and was very well done for something so short. The main characters Ryu and Nagisa were very likeable and very relatable. The way their relationship developed was great, and really touched me. Especially when Nagisa comforted Ryu since it usually was the other way around. The supporting characters were great too. Likeable, if a little bit stereotypical. I was pretty impressed with the character development in Baby Pop, since usually short series have so little of it.
Enjoyment: (10)
I REALLY enjoyed reading Baby Pop! It's short, simple, sweet, and very realistic! The humor was good, even had me laughing out loud in a few panels, and the pacing was good for the story. I'll probably end up re-reading this if I ever get bored, just to laugh and enjoy the manga again!
Overall: (8)
The art was the most irritating part for me, but after the second chapter I got over it. Take out that part and you have a great little 2 volume series. It's really sweet and has some really funny moments! Really, if you just feel like reading something tranquil, funny, and with a few touching scenes in between this is probably a good short read for you! :)
