Sakura and Kou have some childhood memories which aren't necessarily memorable for the right reasons. Regardless, he picks on Sakura constantly calling her ugly and undate-able all the time! Is it any surprise Sakura hates his guts?! On top of that, becase he's always seen arguing with her, people assume they're indulging in lover's quarrels and don't wish to accept poor Sakura's confessions. Groan! This is one doozy of a quandry Sakura is in!
My first reaction, after pushing myself through this manga was that this was thouroughly mediocre, storywise and characterwise as well. Shabby dialogues which pinch and make you go "ooh diss!" rather than
...
doki doki "sigh" aren't mainstream shoujo, but I would've accepted them if they accompanied a somewhat concrete plot, but no, it is obvious to the whole world except for Sakura why this dude is constantly bieng a pain in her neck.
The male potaganist however is just TOO DARN mean even if his role requires him to be standoffish slash awkward towards her, he is forever inflicting harsh words followed by gentle actions which make for one roller coaster emotion after another for her, while he ends up brooding, looking like the victim! He's no shoujo prince! *Indignation*
One the plus side, the artwork is sort of ethereal with the charcoal like drawings and what limited expressions have been portrayed are drawn well. There are a few funny chibi scenes scattered sporadically. I can't help but think that if this manga were to include smut, it might have been more entertaining seeing as the amount of discord between Sakura and Kou definitely hints at pent up sexual frustration somewhere! It's evident in his abrupt kisses. Really, it's like the mangaka picked the common denominator shoujo situations from all popular titles and put them all here, so while the plot advances at a good pace, it's nothing exciting.
Despite these odd redeeming qualities, the plot suffers because the heroine is too darn clueless and every cliched scene frustrates you beyond the point of return. You're left dissatisfied at the end because it delivers nothing unpredictable or memorable, deeming this manga nothing out of the ordinary.
