The manga adaptation of the otome game. The story centers around the six sadistic Sakamaki vampire brothers and a girl, Komori Yui, who goes to live with them.
Yui Komori is a positive-thinking girl who nevertheless is troubled by seeing spirits and experiencing poltergeist phenomena. In her second year in high school, she transfers to a new school—a night school for entertainers and celebrities—due to her father's work. There are rumors that there are vampires among the student body, and Yui ends up living with the Sakamaki brothers.
Okay, So I have watched Diabolik lovers and to be fairly honest; I hated it. However, the manga is so much more gratifying. Yui talks more and although she is a bit of a masochist she is more vocal and you don't see her to be as annoying. Not only that but we are provided with further character development on each of the brothers. I personally like kanato. I hate how he is portrayed in the anime. Yes he is abusive and violent but it is due to truama inflicted on him and the manga gives us more of an insight. You are also able
to pick and choose so you can just read the section on your favourite pairing.
I thought the anime, OVA, and recap were much worse than this, so they got lower scores. As far as a manga goes, it wasn't good by any means, but perhaps I was more positive about it after seeing the train wrecks that were the animes. You had more character in the manga and some of the boys, while all of them were still pretty twisted, had some semblance of a character. Some were better drawn than they were animated and there were some actual cute moments, though the assault didn't cease. However, the assault didn't really feel like assault here, because Yui is revealed
to be a masochist and genuinely enjoys some of the stuff the boys do. While she still doesn't enjoy everything, this is a lot better than the blank, noncensual scenes in the anime.
Overall, a large improvement from the anime to say the least. That being said, I would like to point out this doesn't have very much plot either way. I would suggest treating it like a fanfiction-- you choose your favorite boy and read a somewhat-sexual one-shot dojinshi about them. Or, read for all the boys, like I did. I still despise Kanato and some of the other boys I find a little bland or more than a little twisted, but even then, I actually found some of the chapters genuinely enjoyable, to my own surprise.
I recommend this if: you like sadism/masochism, you like vampires, you like the 'one shot' style without a big underlying plot, you're looking for some fun manga you don't really need to connect to, you adore vampires
I would NOT recommend if: you are looking for character development, plot, want some sort of conclusion, prefer 'vanilla' relationships, like 'nice' guys
