As other people have already pointed out the story is quite cliche, very AoT kind of thing. However despite the setting we are initially given, there was potential for twists and turns to turn Owari into its own story worth reading. However that opportunity was massively wasted. A couple good chapters here and there but I'd recommend only if you are willing to stick it out through really bad segments.

Story 3/10
There seems to be a direction and during the first couple chapters the story is pretty character driven. We are given a protagonist who wants revenge against the vampires for killing his family, however as ... its soon revealed there was a member of his family who did in fact survive. Not the most original but still works for a basic plot. However there are many plot threads which start getting introduced afterwards and aren't really managed well. They become a convoluted mess which clearly loses its focus way too often. And don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with trying to do something past the premise of "vampires vs humans", however it does so in a way were it just jumps from plot point to plot point without fully giving a resolution to the previous thread. There are many things that are supposed to be "foreshadowed" but are simply not done in a clever way.

Art 9/10
The art is nothing to scoff at, quite the opposite actually. The character designs are pretty and the art-style is one of (if not the best) things to come out of Owari no Seraph. Really nice, nothing much I can add.

Characters 4/10
The characters of Owari no Seraph are a huge mixed bag. Now, personally I absolutely adored Mika, he is such a breath of fresh air and serves for a great contrast with Yuu. Besides that, their dynamic is enjoyable, the moments when they get to speak one-on-one are hands down the best and highlight of the manga. However thats about where my praise ends regarding characters.

Side characters are fine overall, enjoyable with fun personalities and gimmicks, however all of the main characters are not well written in many areas. For starters, all of the females seem to only revolve around their love interest. In the extra pages it's revealed that every single on of the female members of Guren's squad have a crush on him to some degree.

And then there is the main female lead: Shinoa. She gets character assassinated basically. She was never my cup of tea but I can see what her charm was, however this gets thrown away later in favor for a classical "im in love with MC" kind of character. It's not that a romance subplot cant be done, but there is clearly a problem when that becomes all the character is.
The rest of the main cast aren't any better. Their motivations often seem to simply not line up with their actions. They seem to adore screaming that they wish to protect "x" thing, however when "x" thing is in danger or even gets killed they kind of just seem oddly okay with it?? Like they'll cry a panel or two and then move on with their lives. coughcoughKimizukicough

Enjoyment 7/10
Honestly I spent have the manga just yelling and begging for Mika to show up again. With that said, pfft- I can't believe I enjoyed myself nearly as much as I did. Its such a riot and don't get me wrong its bad, however, man is it a fun kind of bad. The chapters with Mika and Yuu are absolutely amazing. Would read those again.

To start off, this is my first review.

I would say that the story is quite okay and the vampire and humans fighting each other is a good plot but i have to be completely honest, that i found the family and friends theme quite cheesy and quite tiring. If you are not okay with that kind of theme and you are repulsed by it, i do not recommend this manga.

I have a problem with the typical shounen protagonist (ya know the hot headed ... and reckless one), hyakuya yuichirou forcing his values down other people's throats which gets annoying and then insisting on saving Mikaela after finding out that he is alive (and not killing Mika after he injured Guren is confusing to me) and then on the opposite end of spectrum where hyakuya mikaela constantly says humans are terrible and insisting to save hyakuya yui from other humans where i found it to be a quite angsty and unneccessary plot line. This plot could have been focused on the origin of vampires themselves.

Some of the characters quite bland and boring and their friendship with each other is too quick in my opinion. They have doubts which each other and then are suddenly friends (Kimizuki and Hyakuya). I get iffy with that kind of scenario like you don't suddenly trust people with the snap of your fingers. Some of the characters also play on tropes like Sangu Mitsuba (your typical tsundere) and Saotome Yuichi (your sweet supporting protagonist who secretly has dark intentions). It would be better to show how he is more sadistic then he seems but the mangaka chose to go for the tell, don't show route.

However, there are some compelling characters in this story which make things interesting like Shinoa Hiragi, Shinya Hiragi and Krul Tepes.

Also i apologize if it seems that i am criticizing the characters instead of the actual story. Because the characters flaws stand out in this story a lot, so i feel the need to touch on this area.

If not for the vampires, I would drop this manga a long time ago. Story is idk, weird? There are lots of twist and it's getting annoying xD. After Nagoya incident, the story start off nicely, introducing vampires from overseas, the twist, and hinting vampire's ancestry stuffs. HOWEVER, I was rlly furious to see plot twist in like EVERY chapter urgh :d.

I love every characters other than the main guys (yuu, mika, guren, etc, except shinoa ofc) I like guren at first, but as the manga progressed, I started to despise him, I find him so annoying, selfish, stupid. Yuu is literally Guren v.2. I ... despise yuu's character bcs he's just a weird fool screaming 'I'll save yo family, bla bla'. I'm glad they started to uncover the vampires, but they suddenly went back to Yuu trying to save Mika, oh for god's sake.

I like Yamato Yamamoto's art, and the character designs; especially the vampires and demons are so muach!

The vampires; Ferid, Crowley, Saito, carry this story when it starting to get bad imo. Human characters like Kureto, Shinya, Shinoa, and even Narumi is better than out main cast; they just downright garbage (except Shinoa :))

If you like OnS, you can read it, but just don't get your hopes high on the clouds cuz that's what I did and I got... say, disappointed by how the story progresses (I mean the latest chapters)

I liked the series from the first time I saw the anime even knowing that it probably wasn't adapted as well as it should.
Reading the manga has been quite interesting for the most part, I think it has been declining with the passing of the chapters, reaching a point that right now I consider that they are prolonging it for the sole reason of selling.

It has several good points such as a fairly well worked story, some characters that offer more than you could expect at first and for some, such as my case, an entertaining theme.

On the other hand, there are characters that as ... you continue reading you realize that they are childish, without personal development and without a clear goal or with a clear goal but that the way of acting changes every two chapters without ever reaching anything and for On the other hand, the scales of power are absurd and meaningless as you progress through the story.

At the moment I like it but less and less.

I will admit the initial premise is overdone, humanity is wiped out by a disease, random foe comes forward and protagonist feels the need to kill all of them because they hurt him etc

without going into deep spoiler territory, the story, while being complicated can feel overwhelming at times but this is far from a lighthearted series so that is to be expected.

While I find myself relating to both of the main characters (Yuichiro and Mickeala) I can’t help but feel detached due to how the writer just wants to progress the plot by letting Yuchiro talk his way out ... of everything by declaring someone is his “family/friend” and moving on.

The conflict in this way feels inessential because no matter anyone does the protagonist will forgive them and will continue to do things the same way with little to no consequences and or development.

So while the story is poor in some aspects the characters I still find myself fond of along with Yamato-San’s art work.

Overall = Six (fair)

It’s okay and the plot is decent, the characters need work but it’s enough for me to enjoy without dropping it completely.
It’s not anything new or ground breaking to me it’s just, ok.

First I will state that I am a huge fan of this series and I truly like all the characters. I love the setup and how everything is connected in one way or the other and I'm hoping we get see exactly how everything is connected. But the reasons I have mixed feelings is the feel like the characters are just starting to be written really badly. Yu is just so stuck up with Mika which I get but holy he needs to like realize there's more than just Mika around him. Later on in the manga Mika seems to have common sense and understands ... straight up what's obtainable and what's not. But In the end I feel like the author has something in mind on how this will end and I am excited to see what will happen. (I can see Yu and Shinoa getting together with Mika being alive) along with everything else lmao.
