I had never heard of Niji Iro Tougarashi until I saw it on another site and began reading, because it was fantasy, and I'd heard good things about Mitsuru Adachi. I was pleasantly surprised to find an engrossing story which alternates between slice of life and adventure elements. It's 109 chapters, but it reads quickly. I finished it in about 2 days. The characters are likable, although the ending seems a bit forced. It's frequently humorous, and it never really becomes dark like other shonen journeys tend to.

Nijiiro Tougarashi is by far one of my favorite manga series ever.

Written by Adachi Misturu it is one of his best works, containing all of his staple elements:
- Believable Characters
- Great slapstick comedy
- An enjoyable progressing story arc
- Great romantic tension

It is also one of his more unusual works, with:
- More effort put into art
... - Fight scenes instead of sport scenes
- Wait... This isn't a sport manga !

This is such a great manga because it takes all that is great about some sport mangas, and applies it to a more adventure style manga, while retaining the slice-of-life and slaptstick style. The rythm is gentle but always engrossing.
