It was a disappointment. Maybe the version I read was poorly translated or it was just poorly written. It hard a hard time getting points across to me, both artistically and dialogue wise. The art is solid but the flow of and the sequences were crappy. I had no idea what was happening most of the time.
Story wise, I am really really let down. It takes place in a facility 6000m underwater where a mysterious massacre occurred! You can play around with so many types of fears! The deep, dark ocean itself scares me personally, nightmare deep sea creatures, claustrophobia(Come on, you can imagine ... the facility collapsing in on you, it could be so scary!). But no. He went with (*SPOILERS*) summoning some ancient evil god or something.
It had potential but I was not entertained. :c

Basically it's Event Horizon 6,000 meters below the sea.

Pros:
Amazing artwork that plays with shadow to create truly eerie and horrifying images. Even the scenes where nothing is happening have an overwhelming sense of isolation and dread thanks to the art.

I don't know if the mangaka is a naval structure otaku or a undersea engineer but the depictions of the underwater facility where extremely detailed. The research center felt like a real place which added to the horror. You really get a feel for the sprawling complex that they're trapped in.

The plot uses interesting influences from Aztec religion which I've never seen in ... a horror story before.

The last three or so chapters are definitely a page-turner.

Con:
Weak characters who are never fleshed out. Bland at best and cliche at worst.

It takes too long for anything to actually happen. I have no idea why I stuck through the boring parts of this series for so long but I assume most other people won't.

Some people might consider the end a bit anti-climatic.


6,000 is a decent horror manga and not a very long read at 22 medium length chapters. It isn't a masterpiece of horror, but the concepts and art will be enough to entertain the fans of the morbid and gruesome. Give this one a try.

Art - 9 - Everything is quite well drawn. I have no complaints.

Character - 7 - I'm pretty easy to please as far as character development goes, but I often had trouble telling characters apart

Story - 8 - Now this is where things get difficult. I think that the story presented here is a solid 8; it was very good. However, it was incredibly poorly executed and hard to follow. There are so many instances where the reader is presented images with no context. I can't tell if the author is neglecting to include critical information where it matters, or if they are failing to ... execute some kind of plot twist, but the result is that I was constantly jumping back pages to see if I had missed something (which, of course, I had not). I feel like a lot of this manga could have been saved with more narration, like if the characters would say what they think is going on.
The author is also very bad at conveying where certain things are happening within the facility. For example, without spoiling too much, towards the end of the manga the workers are being pursued by a threat and it's a very fast-paced situation. But then all of the sudden they sit down and start planning stuff and everything's chill for like a week, so we're left to assume they've gotten to a room that the threat can't get to? But then people seem to be able to go get things from other rooms without a hint of worry. And then the threat appears again in the main room we thought was safe with no explanation of how. They just completely fail to establish where the threat is and why they're safe in some areas.

Overall - 5 - I found that this manga had nice art and a gripping plot, so I can't outright call it bad, but I still would never suggest anyone read it.

6000 with an intriguing title and cover many people will see something interesting til they see the score and reviews. While having a setting that many can get behind, 6000 suffers from terrible pacing, lackluster characters, and an f-you author ending. The main redeeming factor comes from the art where the artist does a great job of manga's limited colors of black and white to create an atmosphere centered around lighting that makes this quick read at least nice to look at if you find a good source.

Overall, 6000 has plenty of problems while looking good. It's a short 22 chapters so it's entirely up ... to how you want to use your time.

It has been a while since I finished this so I might have a few memories wrong. The general gist of the story is pretty straightforward and reads like a horror movie. The reveal is pretty interesting to me, but that's because I liked the vague horror aspect of it. It felt very nebulous and inexplicable to a degree, which has become how I like my horrors.
Art is very realistic and serves the mood well. The grisly bits are well drawn with a messy style that makes it feel gritty and dirty, which helps add to the feel. Backgrounds remind me of PastelGames messy art ... fashion, a style I like.
For how short the series is, a decent amount of character is established. A lot of it is done in the prelude, like most horror movies. As the situation devolves, it just gets down to the usual questions about moral actions and survival.
Overall, I was glad this was not too long, compared to some horror that drags it out too much. It was a decent horror read, though the reveal was nothing special. Therefore, it was a bit forgettable for me.
