Kunihiko Ikuhara is one of my favorite anime directors, and his works are a feast for the eyes, as someone who has a weak spot for complex stories full of symbolism Mawaru Penguindrum hit the bullseye in my heart.
The characters all have emotions, talents, ambitions and personalities on their own. Kanba the badass bishounen. Shouma the cutie pacifist. Ringo, who should just die and go to hell. Himari which is the star and the damsel in distress of this story. And the supporting characters
are all great in their own ways.
In the art department, there are no complaints here. Everything looks great, and the covers of the novels' style is pretty cool to look at.
Cool premise and superb execution, Penguindrum is beyond amazing. Pretty enjoyable, fun to read and with some great additions that the anime lacked. The Mawaru Penguindrum is a work of art, just like its animated counterpart.
Someone give this man (Kunihara) a Penguindrum because he really deserves it.
