Both manga are set in variations of the Ottoman Empire. They have a strong historical flavor, with emphasis on politics. Altair is focused on soldiers, so it has a stronger emphasis on warfare, while much of the drama of Drops Of Dreams takes place in the imperial harem. That said, both feature plenty of action and intrigue.

Both stories are based in historically accurate setting and a romance. They both depict fates of women and how they deal what's thrown at them. Those are tales of love, strength and wonder. While Yume no Shizuku is set in medieval Istanbul, Otoyomegatari is placed in 19th century central Asia(Silk Road). They have similar atmosphere and very enjoyable stories. Otoyomegatari has an astounding art style while Yume no Shizuku Kin no Torikago has more action.

These stories have a similar historical flavor about a girl rising from humble origins to become quite powerful in an unfamiliar land, although Basara's land is completely fictional.
