The Shogakukan Manga Award (小学館漫画賞, Shōgakukan Mangashō) is one of Japan's major manga awards, sponsored by Shogakukan Publishing. It has been awarded annually for serialized manga since 1955 and features candidates from a number of publishers. Each winning work will be honored with a bronze statuette and a prize of 1 million yen (about US$9,000). Special awards are also occasionally given out for outstanding work, lifetime achievement, and so forth.

Hard science fiction is a category of science fiction characterized by concern for scientific accuracy and logic. The heart of the "hard science fiction" designation is the relationship of the science content and attitude to the rest of the narrative, and the "hardness" or rigor of the science itself. One requirement for hard SF is procedural or intentional: a story should try to be accurate, logical, credible and rigorous in its use of current scientific and technical knowledge about which technology, phenomena, scenarios and situations that are practically or theoretically possible. For example, the development of concrete proposals for spaceships, space stations, space missions, and a US space program in the 1950s and 1960s influenced a widespread proliferation of "hard" space stories

(Note: not all of these works are considered hard sci-fi, but I decided to put them here due to them being potentially interesting to people that love logical space-themed stories as much as I do)

Title says it all, Manga I have read set in at least one of these criteria.

All were quite enjoyable reads and some have Anime adaptations, usually good ones (especially Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Planetes, Ghost in the Shell and Trigun).

"It's not a matter of good or evil; yet it may be possible to do it any other way."

Noir is characterized by such elements as cynical heroes, stark lighting effects, frequent use of flashbacks, intricate plots, and an underlying existentialist philosophy. The full definition can be found in Noir interest stacks' descriptions; but at times, manga titles haven't gone all in Noir, rather the mangakas made it more palatable to wider audience.

I realize it after having stumbled upon some manga titles that contain some clear Noir features, but not fully immersed in it (tl;dr: not enough blood spilled) to be inserted in Noir interest stack.

(list will be kept updated)
