Garden and Joshi Kouhei are the of the type that unfairly give manga a bad rep, works of art that explore the darkness in the human soul.

Dowman Seyman and Furuya Usamaru's early works are quite similar; sex, violence, weirdness and.... "stuff". It's even intellectually stimulating. Dowman Sayman's works are labelled hentai but it's not really a matching description.

Both by the same artist, but also just as weird.

Garden and Ultra Heaven are two trippy manga. Garden is some of the darkest stuff that has been published, and Ultra Heaven is kind of light. Both are really worth the read.

Garden, Plastic Girl and Chronicles of the clueless age all stem from Usamaru Furuyas early and wild period where he was exploring themes of violence, power, sex, mental issues and adolescence. Plastic Girl is the most abstract, Garden is the most far out and gruesome, while Chronicles of the clueless age really wraps it up neatly without any excessive trigger warning-rated material, while still being able to touch upon the great mysteries of life. All three are highly recommended.

Anthology of short works by Furuya Usamaru. Both are unconventional manga with non-traditional artstyle, panelling and storytelling, going beyond the usual manga limits. If you're looking for something different, these two might be worth to check out.

If you, say, don't get nightmares from reading Ichi the killer, or you read it to get those nightmares, I'd say Usamaru Furuyas Garden might be straight up your street. Garden also gives out a certain indie vibe to it that might excuse the excessive indulgence of sex and violence.

Hana Fuda is really too good to be labeled hentai, and Garden is really too much of everything to be labeled seinen. Both are highly imaginative work of art that cut through genres and flesh alike.

Except from being from the same author, both are surreal fantasy dramas with very similar imagery (style is very artsy and unusual in relation to most manga, an alternative to vast majority contemporary manga art). Garden is collection of short stories, while Marie is one story, if you are interested in reading more alternative manga and you liked one of them you might be interested in reading another.
