What is shared by these two series is the psychological exploration of how people's mentality develop when they are left stranded on a relatively isolated island.

"What the hell is going on?" is usually the thought that comes to mind when first reading either. But each mystery and loose end is slowly unraveled as the story progresses. Both mangas heavily focus on psychological conflicts and character development but only Believers includes adult interactions and erotic behavior. In both stories, a bizzare cult is at fault for the several occurring deaths and disappearances. Standing at the top in 20th Century Boys is "Friend", while in Believers a man called "Master". Same mangaka so they have a similar atmosphere and art style. Also, Believers is a spin off that takes place in the same universe. It's about members of the cult that featured prominently in Arigatou. Arigatou is the superior work and it eclipses Believers thematically, but both are very good and worth reading.

In Believers, there is a pivotal scene in which two characters sexually engage themselves using their feet. This is somewhat similar in Nuku Nuku Toshoiin, though the concept is particularly limited by its comedic and less mature asthetic.
