Synopsis

Long before Naruto Uzumaki mastered the formidable Rasengan, Minato Namikaze trains to develop the ninjutsu under the tutelage of his mentor Jiraiya. Minato strives to create his own powerful technique to protect Kushina Uzumaki, the strong-willed woman he loves.

Honoring Uzumaki clan tradition, Kushina's body hosts the nine-tailed fox spirit, Kurama. The demon seeks to break free from his confines and wreak havoc on the world. As Kushina struggles against Kurama's power and her own inner turmoil, Minato hurries to complete the Rasengan and save her from herself.

Background

Following the NARUTOP99 Worldwide Character Popularity Vote commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Naruto anime, Naruto Gaiden: Uzu no Naka no Tsumujikaze was released to compliment the winning character Minato Namikaze. In celebration of the new manga, a special column series about Minato was made available on the official website between July 19, 2023, and July 23, 2023.

The one-shot was published digitally as an English simulpub as Naruto: The Whorl within the Spiral through MANGA Plus.

Minato One Shot!!!

Plot: (7/10)
How minato found and named rasengan with few staff about his relationship with kushina and we see some staff about how kushina's life was as the 9 tails jinchuriki (very different from what naruto's was and i would say it was far worse)

Art: (8/10)
The art is leagues better than everything we have seen in boruto until now and a very well drawn chapter in general

Characters: (7/10)
Minato, Kushina, few panels with jiraya and kurama!!! For an one-shot the characters are handled very well

If you are fan of Naruto you should definetely read this one-shot, cause it's really good. It basically tells the story of how the "rasengan" was invented and it shows more in dept the bond between Kushina and Minato, and partially also the one between Minato and Jiraya. It's definitely nothing incredible and it won't spark a new series, unlike Bleach's Hell Arc one shot, but it's a nice read and something that could come straight from the original manga (would be nice to see it in a special episode airing on tv, but with the new anime coming in September I don't see it ...

The one shot in question fails to bring anything interesting to the lore of the universe. The information provided often consists of elements that we already knew, which gives a sense of repetition. However, it's worth noting the quality of the artwork and the paneling, which is truly excellent. Unfortunately, these visual aspects alone cannot save the story from its lack of substance.
