Synopsis

Yatarou Araki, a member of the Toujou High School soccer team, has big dreams. Within a decade, he sees himself conquering the soccer world's loftiest peak: European "football!" Fast forward to what may be his last soccer match before graduation, the match that will make or break his dreams. This is my first review here and probably my last for a while. This would also be this manga's first comment here so I thought "why not congratulate this great manga that apparently no-one knows".

To start off, I like football, I played for almost a decade and I love watching and playing it. I was also a defender, so this manga resonates with me in a way that Blue Lock could never (though I also love Blue Lock).

This is my first review on MAL and I hope I can review it well.

This is another football manga which I really enjoyed, not only as a huge football fanboy but the mental aspects of this manga is really interesting, using the drive of the individual Yatarou Araki to see how far he can reach the heights of football is the ultimate enjoyment as a reader.

Catenaccio is a sports manga that isn't really similar to other football mangas.

For starters, we're introduced to our MC, Araki. We can see from chapter 1 that he is no prodigy and is not a genius at football either. Secondly, Araki plays the position 'centre back', which almost seems impossible to write an interesting story about, however the author has done a brilliant job at it - making every chapter greater than the previous. And finally, the story takes place outside of a high school and instead in an entirely different country.
