This is my first review here and probably my last for a while. This would also be this manga's first comment here so I thought "why not congratulate this great manga that apparently no-one knows".

To start off, I like football, I played for almost a decade and I love watching and playing it. I was also a defender, so this manga resonates with me in a way that Blue Lock could never (though I also love Blue Lock).

The art’s a bit rough in spots, but it gets better, and it never really bugged me or made me lose interest. The story’s solid, and the ... characters are surprisingly fun to read.

This series has serious potential (fingers crossed it doesn’t get axed).

Solid 10/10 from me. If you’re into football, I say give this series a shot.

This is another football manga which I really enjoyed, not only as a huge football fanboy but the mental aspects of this manga is really interesting, using the drive of the individual Yatarou Araki to see how far he can reach the heights of football is the ultimate enjoyment as a reader.

The struggles Yatarou Araki faces during his journey to be a footballer has been orchestrated very well by the author, the emotions, languages used has drawn me into the character, all of us dream of being a footballer but ... only few make it.

Catenaccio so far has already got me rooting for the journey.


I hope many people find this gem of a manga and enjoy it

Catenaccio is a sports manga that isn't really similar to other football mangas.

For starters, we're introduced to our MC, Araki. We can see from chapter 1 that he is no prodigy and is not a genius at football either. Secondly, Araki plays the position 'centre back', which almost seems impossible to write an interesting story about, however the author has done a brilliant job at it - making every chapter greater than the previous. And finally, the story takes place outside of a high school and instead in an entirely different country.

Since Araki is by no means a prodigy, it makes his ... 'moments' 10x more satisfactory, making him feel like a true underdog. Catenaccio also does not have stereotypical development like other sports mangas. Instead of having a one week training arc where Araki is now better than before, we see his struggles and weaknesses but we also see how he can overcome them through dedicated training and grit to become the best.

One downside to this manga may be the art as sometimes it looked a little rough, but it was never bad enough for me to drop it.
