While the manga has improved in its pacing and direction on where it wants to go it's still not good. It's stuck in a position where a majority of the fans are there for the girls and the mangaka keep giving to stay in the magazine. It doesn't know if it wants to be a battle manga or an ecchi harem one which it can do both but instead, it's using the battle manga as a front to just write a harem story. It's not even the good type of harem it's just boring.

Gakuro is not interesting whatsoever. He has no personality and always has ... his mouth wide open, it's been reduced throughout chapters but his only two faces are shock or straight face. He also never gains anything out of hard work and is practically given everything. He gets told what to do and I wouldn't even feel surprised if a character tells him how he is supposed to feel and he just agrees with it.

The girls are also not interesting. They have more personality than Gakuro thats for sure but not much. The only thing going for them is their designs which is what anyone takes from this manga. It's heavily carried from the fan art and the type of fan that reads manga for only ecchi. Thats not a bad thing but you know that the mangaka knows this because they have been introducing girl after girl and giving them all the spotlight without developing them just to boost its popularity. There have been a few guys as well but they are even less developed than Gakuro.

The only redeeming quality is the art but I dont like the frequent use of chibi art. It was funny at first but now it's like a repetitive joke turned unfunny. There are some nicely drawn shots here and there but I like how they draw a specific page in chapter 24. Other than that sometimes the art looks off and even bad but that is in every weekly manga so thats more of a nitpick than a criticism on my part.

The Mangaka desperately wants to be serialized in the magazine by whatever means necessary and I can't blame them for doing this. This is Weekly Jump where just a small fall in numbers can mean the axe so I get why they are doing all of this, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. This series should have been a harem romance comedy

Nue no Onmyouji is a waste of time and one of the worst current Weekly Shonen Jump manga. The premise and characters are generic content. The series switches genres at a breakneck pace as if to only confuse the audience, and nothing makes sense as new ideas are piled on top of each other, for reasons never really fully explained. The main character does nothing to drive the plot forward, and has no interesting or redeeming qualities, instead opting to try to stop things from happening. Every chapter, there's more a focus on breasts than anything else with the newest female character moving the plot ... forward while creating boring ecchi situations.

The fact that there is so little to say about this manga says enough. Avoid this series and save yourself the trouble.

Story - 6 (Fine) - Story won't be terribly engaging. Some world-building elements are kinda of cool though.
Art - 6 (Fine) - The artwork is serviceable and there are a couple of characters that I find particularly badass looking.
Characters - 6 (Fine) - Nue and the first female lead are both interesting characters. Outside of that, you might find the rest boring.
Enjoyment - 7 (Good) - I enjoyed it. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but it was a fun comfort read.

Review - This manga is a good comfort / casual read. It's not a good shonen manga and ... the fights won't be terribly engaging, but the school life and slice-of-life aspects are done reasonably well. Nue (the main girl character on the cover) is written incredibly well. She comes off as an empathetic individual which oozes charisma and leadership. I also found some (not all) of the world-building aspects to be interesting. Overall, give it a shot if you are at all interested.

Firstly, if you’re looking for a battle Shonen, mystery or thriller; carry on cause this ain’t it.

This manga is probably most comparable to Rosario to Vampire or maybe a less mature (both in H content and storytelling) Tsugumomo. The manga prioritizes harem first, action far second, sprinkled with touches of ecchi and drama here and there.
It definitely stumbles a bit in its pacing and direction at first but I think it’s starting to get its legs around chapter 8 or so. It differs a bit from the typical dumb unaware harem protagonist by having a somewhat tragically beaten down protagonist that has a strong sense ... of justice that only comes out when he wants to protect people.
So far it hasn’t really done anything too revolutionary but it’s definitely showing signs of potential, some of the backstories are somewhat engaging and the characters (while pretty stereotypical) feel authentic in their actions.
It definitely has the feel of an author desperate to keep their serialization but I think there’s some real potential for a good story to emerge as the author gets more comfortable
Art’s not bad either.

Nue no Onmyouji starts with a setting very similar to Tasogare Otome x Amnesia from Maybe. Nue no Onmyouji or Nue's Exorcist becomes more complex and interesting as the chapters go. To be honest the first is great in terms of typical shonen , where there is room to a great story and some goofy moments make the chapter of a new hero being born. But what sells the story isn't the first three chapters, but as time goes by each arc and chapter just becomes better then the previous one. Making the initial chapters the perfect way to star this story. In other way ... Nue's Exorcist isn't Bleach, the story and characters aren't similar making the only common point here being the theme, but still is a great read for fans of shonen and supernatural stories like Bleach, Demon Slayer, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia. And in the end its refreshing to see so many powerful females with significant roles in it.

Interesting premise, too much harem.

The plot was decent and actually engaging. The action was entertaining enough, not terrible nor phenomenal. However, it was the harem aspect that was unpleasant.

Every other chapter the main character had someone's boobs pushing up against him, and he would get all flustered. It was annoying. The reaction was realistic, but the situations happened too often. The choice to have this teenage boy end up in situations were he would end up flustered due to his libido was not the best.

For those that can ignore how frequent and annoying those situations are will find themselves with a potentially decent ... manga to read.

After 1 year passed I can say that this bleach-like with harem element manga has definitely improved from the first 5 chapters which I thought were the biggest piece of hot garbage I've read in Shonen Jump. so i will pretend to forget it because I don't want to talk about that part.

Many people might say that it's too generic and uninspired and I agree. but we have thousands of such manga in the industry and some of them are good or bad. so it's not much of an issue. First of all, what this manga does well is that the execution and pacing are ... quite smooth and easy to read without being too much confusing. In terms of the main plot and premise there isn't much things that is interesting enough or makes you want to follow what happens in the next chapter. unless you are already a die-hard fan of this type of manga or maybe you'll be interested in what happens to the characters. I am a little bit too

most of the jokes didn't really click for me and were mostly cringe-worthy and the romcom part in particular is terrible and probably the worst part of the series. However, the battle part is well done and cool as a battle shonen and the monster and character designs I think are really good. I will give my full respect here for artist talent for these things

Most of the characters are fine except for the protagonist (his name is gakuro) who I think is a biggest deadweight that makes the series unlikable and annoying for most people, his design is stupid and he always opens his mouth no matter the situation. Which I think the author probably knew and thought was funny or ironic. If so, I can't help but laugh. If you ask me which character do I like the most It's probably nue. she has great leadership personality and cool-looking, as for the other female characters, kazusa is good and badass at time, I hope she ends up with another guy instead of this loser-ass protagonist. (lmao) other male characters like zenno are funny but he has too little screen time.

In terms of art, it was well done. The drawing style is unique, although it's a bit weird in my opinion. especially the anatomy of the characters which always look elongated even if the ghibli design are cute.

The cover design and the color pages are banged and if it was published in my country I might buy it just for the cover.

In the end, this manga is both generic and unique in same time because some of its weirdness that gives it certain appeal and fanbases. it's not definitely the best series, but it has some competency. since It is hated too much. so seeing Hater foam at their mouth when this doesn't get axed yet is a form of entertainment for me
