This manga is from the same author who did BJ Alex. Although the art style is beautiful, it doesn't distract from the awful contents. This author includes situations of sexual abuse and manipulation in this story, as well as violence. For this to be called a BL or romance is just shameful.. This is a manga romanticizes sexual abuse. The author did this in BJ Alex but it's so much worse in this one. If you're thinking of reading this, don't. This story will most likely end up with the two characters eventually falling in love but that's literally ... not okay.

BL has a poor relationship with the wider animanga community in the same way the black plague has a poor relationship with Europe. BL has always been seen as the deranged bastard of the romance genre, and nothing shows that better than probably the biggest BL manhwa right now: Jinx.

Let’s start off with the very little good this comic has. The art is magnificent. The way the author uses shadows is commendable as they add on the drawings so well and make every page come to life. Their use of lines is also amazing, and everything from the character's clothes, to to their hair, ... to their facial features just looks beautiful. If Jinx didn’t have such good art I wouldn’t even give it a 1, and message MAL to add a 0 rating and even that may be too generous. Okay, that’s all the good time for the bad.

The characters:
EVERYONE SUCKS, outside of Potato my pookie. The two leads are just your average bl couple, but showcase all the bad stereotypes that people have about BL. Let’s start off with Dan, the uke. We go from sympathizing with Dan as this destitute man being forced to sell himself to Jaekyung, to just being annoyed with him. Dan isn’t the most bold man, but the way he instantly becomes helpless at the mere sight of Jaekyung is frustrating. He instantly turns into a slave with no will or thoughts of you outside of “muh Jaekyung.” He develops feelings for Jaekyung for reasons I can't fathom after he was nice to him a few times in between all the times he’s assaulting and belittling him. Dan started the series off sympathetic, but now I just find myself annoyed at his presence, and hoping he leaves Jaekyung so the story ends quicker. This is a romance btw, and I don’t want the main leads anywhere near each other

AND JAEKYUNG OH JAEKYUNG. He is the most arrogant, self centered, cruel psychopath I have ever encountered in fiction. It’s amazing people put up with this guy even with his talent as a fighter. He treats everyone like garbage, and I find myself fighting the urge to close my laptop and question my life choices every time he’s on the page. He’s your generic psycho bl top, and he has little to zero characterization outside of that. The reason I can’t write much about him is because there isn’t much to write. He’s just a walking trope.

The pacing:
It’s just awful, the story is over 40 chapters long and it feels like we are on chapter 4. The plot has not moved outside of Dan falling in love with Jaekyung. Everytime the author has seemingly thrown a challenge that may actually make the story interesting, the author swerves us and has Jaekyung win because of reasons.

The message:
This manhwa romanticizes things like sexual assault and manipulation. It tries not to by showing how much it hurts the uke, and how much he verbally hates it, but then again shows how hot it is with the good art making it look sexy. It just makes you wanna vomit.

The fans: Minor tangent but the amount of people who think this is some amazing written romance concerns me. The amount of defenders Jaekyung has is mind boggling. I have heard the absolute dumbest excuses on why he is not that bad. “Oh he got bullied as a kid.” Okay? That does not excuse even 10% of what he’s done. He’s an objectively evil person that deserves chemical castration more than he deserves Dan. He is actual proof that no matter how evil you are, as long as you are hot, people will defend you.

Conclusion:
Jinx is an absolute awful manga that is the personification of every bad stereotype that people have about the BL genre. It romanticizes SA and coercion, has horrendous writing and pacing, and all of the characters are just walking tropes who get more and more unlikeable every chapter. The only saving grace this manhwa has is its art, and that does not make up for a fraction of the flaws this series has. This is what people thought Killing Stalking was, but at least Killing Stalking is a thriller, whereas this is a straight romance. Jinx is a horrible manhwa that no one should waste their time with.

Update: I read till chapter 45 and dropped it.
I decided to make a review when I reach chapter 10, and so far to be honest, the storie is messed up. I have been trying to find one reason why this manhwa is good and the only thing I could think of is the art style, which is really pretty and one of the main characters named Joo Jaekyung is a hottie, nothing more than that.
His personality and his actions until now are disturbing and awful, which makes me hate him.
Basically this is a storie about a guy who is rich, powerfull, a MMA ... fighter with a tremendous physical force and scary personality who has a "jinx", he needs to have a enjoyable s3x session before a match. The point is, just for him, he doesn't care about the other person, their feelings and their CONSENT. Yes, there are some disturbing scenes, it was painful to read.
And then he finds a new physical therapist named Dan, who is having financial problems...
I haven't read BJ Alex, so I can't compare both.
I will stil continue reading Jinx, but so far, I have mixed feelings.

Although the features are very captivating, like the first one, BJ Alex, the toxicity of this... Thing is huge! Sincerely? I do not recommend. It's obvious that this motherfucker is just abusing the boy, for God's sake. It's a fucking romanticzation of rape, man. This was one of the WORST manga I've ever read, although I've read one about the abyss of hell, which almost compares to this one. I rarely hate a manga, this one was already on my "worst" list even before its official release.
Don't waste your time.

I’ve read only 5 chapters and I already can tell that I will hate this webtoon, and not because it has a rape/forced sex scene, but because I’ve seen this exact rape scene and this exact scenario played so many times in so many different webtoons that it’s already simply boring. The characters have exactly 0 personality besides seme being a big aggressive asshole whose ego is almost as big as his dick and uke being a petite and naive guy who’s going to be assaulted hundreds of times and will see nothing wrong in that, instead convincing himself that he’s actually falling in love ... with the other guy. Sprinkle some past (preferably childhood) trauma on top of that that explains why seme is so fucking mean and violent, and narcissistic (his mom died when he was 8 and his dad didn’t like him after that), and you have the characters we’ve seen in so many webtoons already. And they (seme in particular) will have exactly 0 character development until chapter 69 when seme realizes that he maybe doesn’t like uke only when he’s crying while being violently raped but also when he smiles (after being violently raped, that is). After that, seme will still not have any character development but the author will try to desperately convince you (but fail miserably) that seme is actually undergoing some changes and from now on he is going to be a good guy.
It’s not hate for this webtoon in particular, it’s rather just general frustration of mine that there’s already been so many webtoons that are exactly the same, besides slight changes in some insignificant details like plot or characters’ personality (who would care about that?), and the authors are just becoming lazy, preferring to go for that easy cash instead of actually coming up with some interesting and well-thought of ideas. I know it’s probably partly the fault of the publisher of the webtoon as well, as they favor yet another uninteresting and lazy rape story that they try to disguise as a “new original BL love story” over some actually well-written ones, but it only means that sooner or later, the readers are going to be really fed up with it.
And again, it’s not about the story including (or even mainly focusing on) violent rape scenes, it’s not even about the dynamic between the main pairing being fucked up and toxic, it’s about the fact that there’s no more originality in it and everything is just so damn lazily written.

The writing sucks ass and the main couple is stupid as all hell.

With every new chapter that comes out Dan loses more and more braincells each time and becomes nothing but the type of slave maid bimbo you'd find in a bargain bin light novel about a dark lord. He's not really meek or anything, unless the "romantic" scene demands for it, but he becomes so relient Jaekyung and develops stockholm pretty much instantly.

How should I describe him...he's kind of like a fusion betweeen Kazuya and Chizuru from Rental Girlfriend, that is not a compliment mind you. He swoons so often for Jaekyung for the ... smallest of things and it's pretty much clear that he's fallen in love already...even though their romantic moments suck. They suck so bad.

The scene with the grandma made me cringe so hard.

Anyhow, the other main lead:

We basically know NOTHING about Jaekyung yet for the 40 chapters except for:
-He is a dick
-He has a big dick

That's it, I am serious. We get a few hints (If they can even be called that) once a "rival" character arrives but it's not at all enough to make me interested in this dickhead. By the way, I wrote rival with quotations because that shit gets dropped so quick that I was left wondering why the author even bothered with it.

Am I dissapointed since I'm a big fan of the author's previous work, BJ Alex? Yes. However, the extra comics are leading me to believe that this will be a much longer and slower paced story. So, WHO KNOWS, the writing might become better...I hope. Because I do like the art.
