Mixed Feelings
I'm a little surprised at my own reaction to this manga, given my feelings about Asano Inio's works up until now. Ultimately, my lukewarm feelings about this manga mostly have to do with storytelling choices that I can understand, and sort of respect, but I just don't feel pay off well here.

That is to say, this story is extremely difficult to follow upon first reading it, not because too much is left intentionally ambiguous, but because details that end up being important aren't treated as if they're important at all. It's really up to the reader to notice visual details that Asano doesn't draw ...

If you are reading this for the vibe and a nihilistic atmosphere this could be what you are looking for. I expected something more plot-driven and thought the Mangaka tried to put too much in too little space. The story didn´t click with me.

Nijigahara Holograph also felt too edgy without enough substance to support it. I kinda feel like if you want to experience this type of vibe Black Hole (a comic not a manga) does the same way better. I´d also argue that this kind of felt like Gantz. Be it the art style pannel layout or just the vibe. If you liked ...

°English Version°

Nijigahara Holograph by Inio Asano is a manga that by itself deserves several rereadings, it is a puzzle that travels through time in the lives of the characters and that advances or stops at turning points for them. It is dense to read, yes, but it never ceases to fascinate me.

The story is confusing, fanciful at times and mystical at others, and this is what makes it excellent. The basis of everything is a dream, a story, a legend that runs through the years and little by little gets into the depths of each one, letting out the worst of them.

The crudeness of the ...

Mixed Feelings
A story involving a group of young people who had traumatic experiences in their town and a supernatural phenomena which meaning I couldn't fully grasp due to the fragmented nature of the plot as it comes and goes from the past into the present and around multiple characters and I found it difficult to follow and finish in one read.

It's an edgy, cool(?), graphic novel like everything Inio Asano does. He loves shocking images and twists. The problem is I'm not a big fan of his work and his wacky art and characters don't appeal to me. Most of his characters look like Neuman, ...

I've read a few of Asano's works and was particularly impressed by Oyasumi Punpun, therefore I decided to give Nijigahara Holograph a read after reading the premise on MAL. Finished it in one night as it is a relatively brief manga, and my GOD was I disappointed.

The troubling thing about it is that Asano really knows how to structure a manga- the way the panels are laid out, the use of visuals, the narration - he is really REALLY good at it. Thus its disappointing that he would use his talent to write such a miserable and confusing manga. I will start by discussing my ...
