High school student, Masamune, likes a college student barista in his neighborhood, Yuri. She rejects Masamune's teeny advances, until her ex-boyfriend who used to physically abuse her barges into her workplace. Fortunately, Masamune was there to protect her.
And so begins a quirky relationship between the two. Yuri writes a very limited relationship contract where the two are considered as dating; Masamune protects Yuri in exchange for nothing, all the while Masamune being aware that once Yuri likes someone else, she will end their contract.
The idea certainly has some originality. And though initially, you'll find the concept of the contract as ludicrous (and I did as
...
well as first), as you find out about their stories, you'll understand why it somehow makes sense in both their cases. You'd initially think Masamune is some martyr for accepting her terms, but you'll also find out that it's not necessarily true.
The artwork is a bit simplistic and passable. In my opinion, it wouldn't even count as beautiful. But as with most manga, if the story is good and engaging, it barely matters. And in my case, it didn't at all.
Unfortunately, the English translation in mangadex is horrible but still comprehensible. But if you can bear with it, this is still a compelling and entertaining read. And I wish to gawwwd this series hasn't ended yet.
