Minato Wadatsumi, a fisherman's son, has lived in a port town for all 17 years of his life. Despite his background, he cannot swim, and he is scared of fish! After unwillingly throwing a stranded fish back into the sea, Minato is swamped by a wave that drags him down to its depths. Upon regaining his senses, he wakes up surrounded by cute mermaids in the deep-sea world of Latimeria.

Claire, the Queen of the Deep Sea—also referred to as the Primo Mermaid—reveals that Minato has been chosen as Latimeria's prince. As the prince, he can turn a mermaid into the next queen through true love and a kiss. Although Minato has no wish to stay in the ocean, only the power of the Primo Mermaid can bring him back to the surface, forcing him to be the prince.

After meeting Akari Irie, his caretaker, Minato believes that mermaids may be like any other girl. However, he quickly finds out that they can all transform into deep-sea fish! While many girls aim to become the succeeding Primo Mermaid, only Minato's phobia of fish prevents them from flooding him with their passionate love.

Read for the monster (mermaids with monster forms) girls and art. The art was some of the best I've seen in a story, each character being a different sea creature allowed them to be immediately recognizable. The sceneries in the undersea city, the classroooms being bubbles in an etherial sea, the curved bookshelves of the school library as books stretched into the sky, it was all magic. The multiple night sky scenes, both above and under water, are an absolute treasure. This is a series that can be read just for the art alone while disregarding the story. Because damn was the story disappointment.

Mixed Feelings
This manga was a pleasant surprise, I was actually really interested in it. Sadly, if you've read this, it got axed, so the ending is pretty shit. Everything else had the makings of being a fun little romcom though, which is super depressing. There's nothing worse than seeing something you like get axed. I'm sure there were reasons for it, but it hurts nonetheless.

The romance was good, the comedy was good, and the characters were interesting. I'm not very good at super in-depth descriptions so I'll just do my ratings.

First number is my rating, second number is my expected rating for the average person.
