Everybody is a sick fuck, everybody is manipulative. Throughout most of the manga, it appears that there is little hope for the main character and you keep on reading to see where he goes because you just can look away from his spiraling into depression. There is a bit too much explicit content for my personal taste, but it serves a purpose in the narrative. The plot is intriguing and unfolds in unexpected ways, all while maintaining a straightforward and easy-to-follow storyline. The plot twists are seamlessly woven into the narrative, and the depictions of raw depravity leave nothing to the imagination. I particularly appreciate ... Nagi's character, even with she being the biggest negative influence on the main character, and I find Reiji's characterization well done. The psychological elements are strong, and the mystery aspect is decently executed. To be honest, I quite enjoyed it.

This manga stands out with its characters, each with their distinct emotions that feel very authentic. The story emphasizes that material wealth and relationships can't alleviate emptiness or depression. Despite some awkwardly forced sex scenes, i built a strong emotional connection with Reiji and i am rooting for him to find light and salvation in the end. It explores diverse motivations for life and death. The protagonist distances themselves to prevent hurting others upon their death. Somtimes it feels like, they were like "huh this manga has +18 explicit tag, what if we have some kind of sex every volume" its very unwarranted a lot of time, yet understandable because it designed to put off the reader and symbolise the how lost and depressed the protagonist is, in the "Depth of the Abyss".

If you are comfortable with explicit and intense themes, and you have an interest in psychology, I highly recommend reading "Boy's Abyss." However, by the end of it, I found myself feeling somewhat melancholic, and I consider myself a fan of gritty themes. Personally, I would rate "Boy's Abyss" a 9 out of 10. The reason for this rating is that the main character continually spirals back into depression and descends into the abyss, even when it appears that he's on the path to finding some form of light or hope. This aspect of the story reminded me of Oshimi Shuuzou's work, albeit to a lesser extent. The artwork in "Boy's Abyss" deserves a perfect score of 10 out of 10, and the overall story is quite captivating.

However, I believe there is room for improvement in the narrative, and it has the potential to become even better. I will certainly continue following this manga in the future.

i'll be honest: this manga is insanely mid, but i cannot get enough of it.

it's not groundbreaking, the character's are all terrible, the story is all over the place and the pacing is incredibly slow.
but, somehow, it's swallowed me whole. this is not a manga i would EVER recommend and it's a struggle to get through the chapters without sighing, getting frustrated or physically hitting the book. i'm surprised it's got enough support to have a physical manga that you can hold and rip to shreds (if you'd like).

i think what makes boy's abyss so addicting is it's lack of good characters. at this point, ... i'm reading it in hopes that something good will happen. it might also be the fact that ryo minenami, the author, is super innocent and sweet on twitter about his own work. it's calming for my heart and soul. he also draws silly doodles of the characters.

speaking of doodles, the art is REALLY good. even if the story is terrible, the artworks are literal eye candy.

anyway, this has been my little ramble review. tl;dr: whole manga is garbage, but i like to be hopeful it'll get better + art is good.

The ratings of this manga are proof of how easily edgy and pretentious writers can gaslight the audience into thinking they're actually good. In fact, this mediocre at best manga is not much better than the frown uppon generic romcom/harem manga and anime. The concept appears to have a glimpse of potential, and the first chapters, while not a masterpiece, are strong enough. We soon come to learn that this couldn't be further from the truth, with characters that serve as no more than molds for fatality, and who are either extremely one note and archetypical or plain non existent. The pacing is extremely ... fast and distasteful, creating the impression of being in front of the work of an edgelord who wants to write oyasumi punpun, while not understanding in the tiniest bit why it is good, and instead making it an endless shitpiling over this empty "characters". They either don't evolve in any way (Reiji or his mother), or drastically become a completely different (still one note) character.
