Synopsis

Shy first-year high school student Minato Asano has managed to keep to her resolve of avoiding unnecessary interactions with others. But this resolve becomes all for naught the moment she hears a random melody within the grounds of a school not known for having a music club; the source of the sound is the bubbly second-year Hibiki Sugawa, who has actively sought out Minato to get the easily-flustered girl to join her new concert club.

Finding that the drummer will not take no for an answer, Minato is persuaded to bring her trombone and meet the other band members: bass guitarist Chika Inagaki; flutist Sakiko Arita; and Ema Nonaka, who occasionally drops by with her skills on the saxophone, guitar, and piano. Though wary of the group at first, Minato slowly finds herself opening up to people once more as she casually jams with Hibiki and the other members.

‘Hello, Melancholic!’ is the story of the sweet, anxious, adorably awkward Asano Minato, who stands out as a tall, scruffy girl with sanpaku eyes in a genre full of ‘pretty girls’. The series showcases a strong depiction of anxiety and avoidance patterns stemming from a feeling of not belonging, as well as the protagonist struggling with romantic feelings when she doesn’t feel worthy of them.

i am a certified yuri lover til the day i die and i soooooo wanted to like this. but unfortunately, the romance was very unhealthy imo and not even in an interesting way. it just made me very uncomfortable. the main character is a very insecure, anxious, depressed teen who is not even close to being ready to enter a relationship. the love interest is the complete opposite. she is very confident and is constantly assuming what the main character needs. the love interest practically treats her like a pet. this whole story was honestly so disappointing. i wish there was a larger focus the ...
