Most kids spend their days at school, but not Hareta. Raised in the wild by Pokémon, he can climb as high as an Aipom, swim as fast as a Magikarp, and even eat bark like a Bidoof!
Recruited by Professor Rowan, Hareta decides to become a Pokémon Trainer. Along with his first Pokémon, Piplup, and his new friend Mitsumi, he sets off in search of the legendary Pokémon Dialga. But Team Galactic is hunting for Dialga too. Can Hareta and Piplup defeat Team Galactic and stop their evil plans?
This shit is hardcore, man. You think you understand Pokemon? Think again, motherfucker.
Yes, sometimes the humor feels a bit forced and can fall flat. Yes, it can be childish at times. Yes, the main character is a lot like Jaden Yuki.
But really, who cares?
This shit is amazing. Team Galactic gets a sinister as fuck portrayal in this manga and they feel like a threat. Don't believe me? Try volumes 4 and 5. Grimdark as fuck. It's not your typical story where the bad guys just try to defeat the MC's Pokemon so he'll leave them alone. Fuck that, these guys want him dead.
But yeah, back to the quality. The art's pretty damn good. The artist clearly has his own style and that's part of what makes this manga so great. You know, aside from the kickass story and characters.
Speaking of story, this shit's awesome. It flows really well and it can even be suspenseful. That's right, suspenseful. It's a fucking Pokemon manga, but I was still left wondering what would happen at times. Since when does Pokemon leave you guessing?
And them characters. You gotta love the darling Mitsumi. The writer really delves into her personality. Typical Pokemon heroine? Ha, fuck that. She's got a lot to her, but you gotta read it to find out. Hareta's a pretty cool MC, but he's more cliche than Mitsumi. Still, he gets credit for some of the badass stunts he pulls. Jun's also pretty cool. He doesn't get as much attention as Mitsumi and Hareta, but he does have his fair share of appearances. Not much is done with his character, but it's cool because he's got good taste in women.
Seriously, go read this manga right now. It's fucking great. 8/10. Volumes 4 and 5 are a 9. The final volume is really good too. That one gets an 8.5.read more
First of all I need to say that I didn't expect much from his manga when I first saw the cover but it surprised me quite positively.
This is the most impressing thing about that manga. When I played the d/p games Team Galactic I thought that they didn't act the way an evil organisation should and the manga managed it to make Team Galactic act more evil. Especially Cyrus seems to be the more insane and brilliant leader. Furthermore there were some pretty good plot twists which really surprised me.
The art is good, it's very different from th art of Pokemon Adventures and Mitsumi is completely different drawn than Platina. The characters and the background are well drawn and the mood fits to the situations.
The characters are pretty good as well, Hareta made an excelant main character, who's funny and smart in battles. But the characters who interested me more was Mitsumi since I think she was much cooler than Platina of the Pokemon Adventures. The personalities and the character developement was also well done.
I really enjoyed reading this manga because it's very funny but in the right moments it's also dark. The plot twists are very good done, it was always interesting and the characters are all likeable.
All in all you should really give that manga a try, it's better than it seems and it's very enjoyable.
Despite being released by Viz Kids in North America, and having a extremely similar English title, this series has nothing to do with Pokémon Special. Viz Kids only used similar names to trick children or people that don't know any better into spending money on a sub-par series.
To add insult to injury they have since begun releasing the Diamond and Pearl chapters of Pokémon Special under the title of "Pokemon Adventures Diamond and Pearl.
I advise you stay away from this series and instead read Pokémon Special/Pokémon Adventures.
